FROM BRUSSELS
At the Branch
By Jo-Ann McDonald
The general meeting of the
Brussels Legion was cancelled due
to lack of attendance. It will be
rescheduled.
Comrade Sandra Josling collected
the poster, essay and poems from the
schools and had comrades in to do
the judging on Wednesday. It was a
difficult task for Comrades John
Lowe, Cecil Moore, Julie Harrison
and Lawrence Machan. I'm sure
they did a great job and the winners
will be notified through the schools.
The Thursday night darts had only
12 players taking aim at the boards.
In first place were Ron Schmidt and
Catrina Josling. There was a tie for
second between the team of Julie
Harrison and Harry Smith and solo
player John Harrison, who ended as
the winner. The high shot was by
Ron Schmidt with 125 and the high

The regular meeting of Morning
Star Rebekah Lodge, Brussels took
place on Tuesday, Nov. 23 with
Noble Grand Sister. Elva Brown
presiding.
The charter of the lodge was
draped in loving memory of Sister
Retta Hoover who passed away on
Nov. 14.
Plans were finalized for 12
members to attend a dinner and
meeting on Dec. 7 in Stratford in
honour of sister Marilyn Wilson,
president of the Rebekah Assembly,
when she pays her official visit to
Huron District #23.
The Lodge's Christmas party will
be held Dec. 14 beginning with
dinner at JR's.

What a relief, Santa got to
Brussels on Saturday. Some of us
were a little concerned. He had
one hectic schedule on Friday and
Saturday. His planning department
must be very competent just to
keep the times and places straight
let alone get him to each parade
and visit on time.
Way to go Santa — another year
of efficiency. What en example to
the rest of us with our very human
time concerns.
Parades in neighbouring
communities on the weekend
seemed to compliment ours.
Several entries made it to three
parades — thanks for your

is roast beef.
community spirit.
The -Legion Pipe band led the
parade showing off displays of
lights, music and supporters of the
various floats. The lights were
ablazing on trucks and wagons,
tractors and vans. The generators
were all in fine form, lighting up
the street to start the festive
season.
The clown walking with the
well-lit cart was quite inventive
and the St. John girls were very
reassuring.
Don McNeil shared his fine
buggy with us once again. His

parades or the number left he'll be -
in? Let me think.
Anyway it was good to see the
jalopy but darn, it was too dark to
see the newest additions to his-
creation on wheels.
So to the organizers and
participants — thank you.
Don't forget to get with the
season and send your gifts along to

The Christmas parties are in full
swing as the weekends leading
into December get filled with
gatherings and festivities. Enjoy,
but remember the reason for the
season and share only your good
thoughts of peace, joy, hope and
love. Leave the scrooge thoughts
under the bed and be thankful
someone wants our company.

The United Church folks were
happy and relieved as Joan Golden
returned to the village on Sunday
morning. She had spent the-last 10
days in Guatemala, a country with
a history of massacres, injustice
and violence. As part of her
diaconal studies for ministry in the
United Church of Canada she
lived with the people and saw their
plight. The hope is that by

The Brussels PeeWee team
participated in the Legion-sponsored
tournament held in Lucknow. They

good even game against Clifford but
Clifford won 3-2.

she will be ready to share her story

Happy Advent.
