Obituaries
WILLIAM TURNBULL
William "Bill" James Andrew
Turnbull of Brussels passed away at
Huronlea, Home for the Aged with
his family by his side on Saturday,
June 19, 2004. He was in his 84th
year.
Bill was born in Grey Twp. on July
27, 1920. He attended OAC in
Guelph after winning a one-year
Huron County CKNX farm
scholarship and made many lifetime
friends.
In 1941 he married his beloved
wife, Marie (Baker) and started
farming on Lot 10, Concession 15,
Grey Twp. where they lived for 25
years specializing in purebred
shorthorn cattle and Yorkshire pigs.
In 1966, they moved to the edge of
Brussels and continued raising prize-
winning swine that they showed at
exhibitions across Canada until his
retirement in 1984.
Bill dedicated over 44 years to
farm organizations including Grey
Twp. and Huron County Federations
of Agriculture, Huron County
Shorthorn Club, 4-H clubs, Soil and
Crop Improvement Association and
East Huron Agriculture Society. He
was president of both Ontario and
Canadian Swine Breeders
Association and well known for his
judging ability in Canada.
For, several years he was the
capital grant inspector in Huron
County.
Bill was a charter member of the
Brussels Lions Club in 1946. A past
master of the St, John's Lodge #284
Brussels, he received his 50-year pin
in 1994. He was also a member of
Mocha Temple, Bluewater Shrine
Club, the Scottish Rite, Duff's
United Church, Walton and later
Brussels United Church.
Bill will be sadly missed by his
daughters Marion Uhler and her
husband Ron of Burlington, Barb
Fritz and her husband Jim of
Brussels and Shirley Turnbull of
Orillia. He will be lovingly
remembered by his grandchildren
Patti and Jeff Parnell, Jeff Uhler,
Tim and Lisa Fritz, Kim and Ron
Strome, Steve Fritz, Greg and Jill
Fritz as well as great-grandchildren
Emma, Sarah and Abby Strome,
Daniel, Dalian and Dustin Fritz and
Luke Fritz.
Bill is also survived by his brother
Dr. John Turnbull of Seaforth and
his sisters Helen Habkirk of
Ingersoll and Dorothy Lawless and
her husband Doug of Burlington. He
was predeceased by his wife Marie
in 1998, his parents Wilbur and
Jennie Turnbull, brother-in-law
George Habkirk and sister-in-law
Marion Turnbull.
Many friends were received at the
Schimanski Family Funeral Home,
Brussels on Monday, June 21. A
Masonic memorial service followed
under the auspices of St. John's
Lodge #284 A.F. and A.M.
The funeral service was conducted
on Tuesday, June 22 at 2 p.m. with
Rev. Joan Golden of Brussels United
Church officiating.
Eulogies paying tribute to Bill's
life were given by Candice
McLellan, Greg Fritz, Doug Lawless
and Neil McGavin.
A solo, In The Bulb There is a
Flower was sung by Betty Graber-
Watson with Grace Jutzi as pianist.
Honorary pallbearers were Alf
Sutton, Donald Dunbar, Jim Prior,
Max Oldfield, Bette Strachan, Myra,
Edgar and David McKenney.
Pallbearers were Tim Fritz, Steve
Fritz, Greg Fritz, Ron Strome, Jeff
Uhler and Jeff Parnell. Carrying
floral tributes were Kim Strome,
Patti Parnell, Jill Fritz, Emma and
Sarah Strome.
Interment was in the Brussels
cemetery with piper Jack Habkirk,
Bill's nephew playing Amazing
Grace.
As expressions of sympathy
memorial donations may be made to
Brussels United Church, Shriner's
Hospitals or the charity of one's
choice.
ROBERT JACK SNELL
Robert Jack Snell of
Londesborough passed away at
Clinton Public Hospital on Tuesday,
June 22, 2004. He was in his 84th
year.
Jack was born in Colborne Twp.
on Feb. 19, 1921, son of the late
John and Barbara Snell.
Jack farmed in Hullett Twp. until
he retired to Londesborough. He
served in the RCAF as a wireless
operator during World War II.
Jack was a member of the
Londesborough United Church, as
well as a member of Hullett A.F. &
A.M. Lodge No. 568 and Eastern
Star Clinton Chapter No. 266.
He was the beloved husband of
Marion (Nethery) Snell. He was the
loving father and father-in-law of
Barb and Allan Bosman of
Londesborough, Bonnie and Ross
Jewitt of Clinton, Rob and Brenda-
And Snell of Exeter, Bette and Bev
Jewitt of Barrie and Faye Snell of
Kincardine. He was loved and will
be sadly missed by his
grandchildren: Lisa and Neil Elliott,
Kelly and Blaine Marks, Lori and
Scott Stevens, Scott and Korren
Jewitt, Gavin, Hayley, Dan and Tim
Snell, Craig, Trent, Lindsey and
Deron Jewitt, Laura and Kerni Snell
and great-grandchildren Jordan and
Chad Elliott, McKenzie Stevens and
Ryan Marks. He was the dear
brother and brother-in-law of Elva
Peck of Hensall, Doug and Florence
Snell of Londesborough, Betty
Fisher of Hensall, Isabel Scanlon of
Clinton, Jean and Ray Potter of
Blyth and Jean Nethery of
Blyth.
He was predeceased by one son .
Richard Snell (1996), a
granddaughter Amy Bosman (1986)
and one sister Helen Heuton.
Friends were received at the Blyth
Visitation Centre of the Falconer
Funeral Homes Ltd., 407 Queen St.,
Blyth on Thursday from 2 - 4 and 7 -
9 p.m. The funeral service was held
at Londesborough United Church on
Friday, June 25 at 2 p.m. Reverend
Pat Cook of Londesborough United
Church officiated.
Interment was at Blyth Union
Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Neil Elliott, Scott
Stevens, Blaine Marks, Gavin and
Dan Snell, Craig, Trent and Deron
Jewitt. Flowerbearers were Lisa
Elliott, Kelly Marks, Hayley Snell,
Lindsey Jewitt, Laura Snell and
Kern Snell.
A memorial service was held by
Hullett Lodge A.F. & ANI. No. 568
on Thursday at 9 p.m. followed by
the O.E.S. Clinton Chapter No. 266
memorial service at 9:15 p.m.
Donations to the Canadian
Hemophilia Society, Londesborough
United Church or to the charity of
one's choice would be appreciated as
expressions of sympathy.
ERNEST LYLE SEILI
Ernest Lyle Seili of Richmond
Terrace Nursing Home and formerly
of Harrow passed away Wednesday,
June 16, 2004. He was 76 years of
age.
He was predeceased by his wife
Alberto (Albright).
Mr. Seili is survived by his brother
Ellwood and Beatrice Seili of
Brussels. He is also survived by
three nephews, a niece, 10 great-
nieces and nephews, and two great-
great nephews. •
Lyle was a missionary in Haiti,
Ecuador and Dominican Republic
from 1980-1981.
A memorial service to celebrate
Lyle's life was held at Gerald A.
Smith Funeral Home, 197 King St.
W., Harrow, Thursday, June 24 at 1
p.m. Elder Edsel Smith officiated.
Interment of cremated remains
was at Erie Cemetery, Leamington,
ON.
