Sunday school
awards
presented
Continued from page 20
to Sunday school superintendent
Elaine Armstrong, assisted by
Sunday School Secretary Lynne
Cronin.
Mrs. Armstrong reported on the
many accomplishments of the
children including their mission
project, their support of the foster
child in Africa and their participation
in Kids' Korner. She thanked Rev.
Campbell for her help and efforts
with the Sunday school program,
Mrs. Douma for her leadership of the
Junior Choir and her participation in
the Sunday school program and Mrs.
Cronin for her secretarial work.
Awards were given out with new
certificates being presented to
Hayden tenPas, Brody TenPas and
Anthony Vader. Second-year seals
were presented to Eliza Dodds and
Matthew Pipe. The third-year seal
went to Olivia McArter, the fourth-
year seal to Matthew Cardiff, and the
seventh-year seal to Justin Pipe. For
his ninth-year continuous record of
attendance, William King received a
hymn book of the church.
In closing the awards ceremony,
Rev. Campbell said that this was
Mrs. Armstrong's 10th year as
Sunday school superintendent and
together with Clerk of Session Mary
Douma led the congregation in
giving her congratulations and
thanks on this accomplishment.
The scripture lesson of 1 Kings 19:
15 - 21: Galatians 5:22 to 6:10; Luke
9: 46 - 50 were read by Rev.
Campbell with assistance by Laura
Armstrong. This was followed by the
singing of the hymn, We Are One In
The Spirit.
In her sermon, Surely I Have a
Delightful Inheritance, Rev
Campbell talked of the things people
inherit, whether possessions, wealth
or physical features. She said that
one's greatest inheritance is God's
great gift whereby all are called to
live their lives reflecting God's
message. "It's not important what
possessions we own", she said," but
that the things we have should not be
hoarded but spent lavishly in living".
"It cost him a lot materially, but
gave him much more spiritually",
said Rev. Campbell.
A finger-food luncheon was served
in the church basement following the
service with proceeds going to
Presbyterian Sharing.
Dave and Janet McCutcheon
organized a congregational fun day
with potluck luncheon in Cranbrook
at the golf course owned by Dave
and Karen Smith.
During July, there will be no
church services at Melville as the
congregation will ,be worshiping
with Brussels United Church.
Regular services will resume at
Melville Presbyterian Church on
Sunday, Aug. 1.

In 1926 the Boy Scouts Club was
organized. D. MacTavish, F. Wilmot
(manager of the Nova Scotia Bank),
D. D. Ramage (dentist) constituted
the committee. Reverent Fowler was
the Scoutmaster. The boys met
regularly every Friday evening and
also as a class on Sunday afternoon.
At a special meeting in the fall it was
decided to transfer the Boy Scouts to
the Order of the Burning Bush, the
new organization recommended by
the church. It seeks to develop the
ideals for which the church stand.
The class will meet every Thursday.
