Blyth Public School
Valedictorian remembers the Blyth Bears years
Wow! It's the night of our gradua-
tion and all I can think of is how did
we get here?
For the last 10 years we've been
together here in the school that 'is
Blyth Public. Through all these years
our class has experienced many
changes in our school from the
"Trees" to the "Bears" and, we were
also the first "experimental" year of
junior kindergarten, making us the
first class to survive 10 years in Blyth
Public School.
We started in kindergarten when
everything seemed big and, scary. We
were the smallest but most enthusias-
Just as excited we moved through
the grades thinking the next was
always much better than the last with
some new faces to join us along the
way. We changed teachers almost
every year having Mrs. A-G in
Grade I, Mrs. Grail for Grades 2 and
3. _
Then we had out first split class
with Mrs. Imanse with some and Ms
Turner with the others, then in Grade
5 we all were in Ms Barnett's class
together. In Grade 6 some of us had
Ms Barnett as a teacher and some of
us were then introduced to our very
special Ms Pearson. But then we
were back together as a class for
Grade 7 with Mr. LeRoux.
Through all our numbered grades
we had some great times and some
really fun field trips. I know
most of us know the
Wawanosh Nature Centre
like the back'of our hands.
But I don't think any of
those years could compare
with our last year at Blyth
Public with Ms Pearson.
We all learned so much
about the work it takes to go
on a trip and the time it takes to
prepare a wonderful graduation
like this. We also learned that all
work is rewarded in some way or
another, be it trips to Celtic for the
experience of a lifetime or maybe
you get to act as principal for a day.
I know we wouldn't have made it
through some of our bad days with
our Ms Pearson and we all know that
she is the reason for a lot of our good
days. Leaving her will be hard
enough let alone the school because
Ms Pearson as well as the rest of the
staff at Blyth Public taught us all that
we can do almost anything.
We're looking back on good times
like our trips and field days but not
all of our great times were outside of
school. We learned about fire safety
in all of our younger years, and also
were given the chance to help with
food days or answer the phones and
mainly show the younger grades the
things they can do with just a little
help. From carving jack-o-lanterns
with the "Kindy's" to helping with
dances at school, our years at Blyth
Public are packed full of memories.
But all this reminiscing raises
a more urgent question to me.
What now? What's next?
Where do we. ga from here?
Well my only advice to my
fellow classmates to solve
this question is step up to the
plate. It's our turn to be the
"minor niners". Earn new
friendships but keep the old,
y but most of all enjoy your mem-
ories from this school.
You never know 15 years from
now when Anthony Peters is an all-
star player in the NHL, or when
Regal Good is a famous comedian
you'll be able to say, "They were in
my Grade 8 class' at Blyth Public
School."
I don't know what's ahead for any-
one in this room, but I do know that
with the help of our classmates, fam-
ilies, friends and our teachers, Blyth
Public School has given us a very
solid base for an amazing future..
Not only do I want to remind you.
of all the great times we've had but
also I would like to congratulate all
of you for achieving our common
goal as a class. We did it! We are
graduating!
I would also like to thank each and
every one of the teachers and parents
here tonight. I know a lot of hard
work and time went into making
tonight a night to remember.

By Corine Falconer tic in the school from singing songs
with Mrs. Webster or playing with
the parachute in the gym.
I can still remember the day Jenny
McDonald had mistaken the fire
alarm for the light switch just before
our first-ever field trip or the day
Mrs. Buffinga taught us to tie our
shoes.
After a successful two years of
kindergarten it was time to graduate.
Kindergarten graduation seemed like
a big deal with paper hats and huge
banner with all our handprints on it.
But even that didn't compare with
Grade 1 with bigger and better things
to learn.
