Things to do, people to see, places to be — the days of summer are so nice. School is out and the kids are enjoying the extra hours of freedom. Swimming lessons to do, ball to play, books to read and paths to follow all in a summer day. Leona and Jim Armstrong enjoyed the company of the Secco family from Brazil the past two weeks. Edison Secco and Jim met about five years ago through their Common interest in the Pietenpoi aircraft. The friendship grew over the years as they shared interest in aviation, specifically the Pietenpol. Edison was thrilled to receive a Foreign License Validation Certificate from Transport Canada in the mail thanks to the efforts of Jim and Leona. Both families enjoyed the time spent together especially the sight of their favourite aircraft in the sky with Edison in the flight seat. Once again the beauty of our awesome farmland was a favourite thing to see. The reality and unorderliness of life can be such a rip. The Grade 8 class of Brussels Public was on high last Monday, looking pretty fine in their dressed-up clothes as they got ready to Dobson conducting the meeting. The regular business of the Branch was conducted and plans for the cemetery decoration service was discussed. The shocking news of the accidental death of Joseph Kerkhof rocked the community and the Branch. Joseph was a member of the Brussels Cadet Corps 2967. Feeling under the weather are Comrades Ross Bennett and Bill Bremner. We hope both of them are feeling better. At the Branch Branch holds celebration for Seniors Month graduate. All day and night they laughed and remembered all the work and fun they shared in their school time together. Beautiful young people full of dreams for the next stage of their life. By the next day Joseph was dead. Tragic, horrible, sad, unfair. Words and reason do,not comfort. Each one had thoughts of their own. Thoughts take their own path and resources and coping skills come to the front. Yes some days life is not good but this is when the familiar — the family, friends and time are the things that get the hours to pass. So use the advice you were given - - talk to the ministers, teachers, family and friends. No words ,are silly, no feeling is wrong. Just share your sad and mad thoughts with others who understand. This is a supportive community — let us help. Part of the tradition of summer is enjoying a hearty breakfast in the outdoors. The firefighters of Brussels and Grey the past two Sundays have offered us pretty fine fare with minimal advice from the spouses. The money given returns to better our community — articles are purchased, plans are made to make our area safer still. It's also nice-to see these guys in a fun situation, offering new views on how to make breakfast. Thanks to all the firefighters of Brussels and Grey for your time, commitment and knowledge ready to serve at our demand. Get your tickets for the Blyth Festival soon — don't wait and be disappointed. Bye now, Betty G.W. Survey distributed for ideas
