A pretty little penny
The Blyth branch of the Royal Canadian Legion held a
penny auction on June 18 and with such a wide variety of
items to chose from, it's no wonder Marie Button had to get
a good look at each before placing her ticket in the cup. (Elyse

Council refuses business's request
By Bonnie Gropp
Citizen editor
It was with reluctance that North
Huron councillors at their Monday
night meeting rejected a request
from a Blyth business.
Michelle Nesbitt of The Blyth Inn
Inc. had asked for council's support
to help them with a buck and doe on
June 26. Nesbitt was hoping that
they could be given permission to
use the sidewalk on the south side of
the Inn. They would apply for a
special occasion permit and would
fence in an area of 18' by 35'.
"I have a bit of a problem with
this." councillor Arnold Taylor
began the discussion. "As an
outdoor event, are we setting a
precedent?"
Councillor Archie MacGowan
also expressed concern. "Normally
this type of function goes to an
arena. It's more controlled."
The reason for the request, clerk-
administrator John Stewart
explained is that the business is only
licenced for 180 and they are hoping
to sell 200 tickets. "They are looking
at some way of expanding."
MacGowan noted that simply for
the issue of risk management he felt
there were concerns. "There are no
barriers to the road."
Stewart said he had explained to
Nesbitt that council would need to
know there was adequate insurance
in place and see a ropy of the
insurance policy. "But in saying that,
if something happens you know
who's going to be named," he added.
Sparling's Propane of Blyth was
presented with five Crystal Flame
awards at the annual general
meeting of the Ontario Propane
Association held in Guelph.
The Crystal Flame Awards are
symbolic of the highest level of
leadership in the propane industry
and are presented for outstanding

pointed out that there would be a

Greeting at Blyth United Church
on Sunday, June 20 were Diana
Campbell and Enid MacDonald.
Ushering was Les Caldwell. Guest
musician was Margaret Kai.
Rev, Eugen Bannerman welcomed
everyone to church for Father's Day.
Dane Corned favoured the
congregation with a solo, Gospel of
Grace.
The children's hymn, I the Lord of
Sea and Sky was sung.
Rev. Bannerman read the scripture
from 2nd Kings 2: 1-2, 6-14. The
responsive Psalm 5 was led by 011ie
Craig with the choir singing the
refrain. The Gospel reading was
from Luke 9: 51-62.
The hymn Come and Find the
Quiet Centre was sung.
Rev. Bannerman's message to the
adults was, A Father's Day Sermon.
He said children acquire a lot of
their habits from their parents. Rev.
Bannerman related some of the
things he had learned from his
Father. His father had brought along
books from Poland when he came to
Canada. Often if a child sees a
parent reading they will enjoy
readinvoo.
His father was a Sunday School
teacher. His father loved classical
music. His father was able to make
changes when he had to. He moved
his family to Canada when the war
broke out.
Dane Corneil favoured the
congregation with another solo An
Evening Prayer.
