PAGE 11. 10 youths confirmed at Londesboro United Church FROM LONDESBORO Students honoured at Winit assembly On June 1. Hullett Central Public School held its assembly of accomplishments for the month of May. Four pupils were recognized for exemplified virtues under emphasis that month. Diligence was recognized in a pupil who always finishes her work well. This girl is motivated to start a project and works hard to complete an assignment. Another girl does all she is asked without complaint and this shows the virtue of co- operation. A young fellow shows the virtue orderliness as he always keeps his desk clean and knows where things are when he is asked. Self-discipline has been shown this term by a boy who has improved his self control. Virtues being studied until the end of June are consideration, truthfulness, honour and reliability. In a recent column it was noted that the Grades 3 and 6 were writing EQAO assessments for the Ministry of Education. The results of these tests will not be returned until late in the fall. However, the Fraser Institute Report from previous years has ranked the local school 70th out of 2887 Ontario schools. Well done, Hullett. This results is a co-operative effort of pupils, parents and teaching staff. Pupils who completed at Seaforth in the regional track and field meet last Thursday did themselves proud. In the senior group of girls 14 and older, Laura Snell was the overall winner. Matt Boven was the overall winner in the intermediate group of 13-year-old boys. The highest score in the. junior girls division of 12- year-old girls was a tie and one of those scorers was Danielle Bean. Both midget divisions of 10 and 11- year-olds were won by Hullett pupils, Brent Drost and Alanna Roy. Great effort, kids. These winners can compete at a third level, the combined AMDSB meet, on June 15 in Mitchell. It was a very special Sunday at Londesborough United Church on June 6 and the church was full. Ten young people, who have been a part of that church family for many years, many of whom were baptized at Londesborough United, were confirmed committing themselves to full membership. Shawn Tyler Drost, Kendra Nicole Falconer, Matthew Alexander Goodall, Mary Jane Horbanuik, Molly Jeanne Horbanuik, Amanda Kristen Mitchell, Jacquelyn Alannah Mitchell, Eric Christopher Radford, Terrence Andrew Radford and Rachel Diane Snell proclaimed their faith in front of congregants of Londesborough United, family members and friends. Chair of Session, Marjorie Duizer presented the confirmands to the congregation and presented each with a Bible. The young confirmands all took part in the morning service. Ushers and greeters were Amanda and Jacqui Mitchell, Eric Radford and Matt Goodall. The offering was received by M.J. and Molly Horbanuik. Assisting Rev. Pat Cook with the serving of the elements of the Sacrament of Holy Communion were Brian Whyte, Mel Knox, Garnet Wright, Bernice Norman, Brenda Konarski and Don Goodall. The Old Testament scripture passage, Jeremiah 31: 31-34, which speaks of the new covenant God made with the house of Judah, was read by Shawn Drost. Jesus told two parables in Matthew 13: 31-35 which spoke of the results of faith in God. This New Testament passage was read by .Terry Radford. Psalm 105 speaks of wondrous acts God did for His people Israel, His followers. Kendra Falconer and Rachel Snell led the congregation in this responsive reading. Rev. Cook's message was titled, Sowing Seeds of Hope, based on one of her favourite parables, the mustard seed. The senior choir offered two communion anthems, It Is Well With My Soul, and We Bow Before You. A reception was held following the service allowing the congregation an opportunity to welcome and congratulate the young folk. Sunday, June 13 is the Sunday school promotion and award service to be followed by a potluck lunch. The Sunday school will provide dessert for that occasion. The junior choir has a practice at Hullett School on Friday, June 11 following classes. Saturday, June 12 is the UCW progressive mystery dinner. Have you called Lynda for a ticket?
