Sandra Clark of Brussels first became involved in Bat Kol in 2001. She has shared what she has learned through discussion with various groups, but is now looking at a more personal way of studying. "I would like to start what is called Havrutah. It would be a small group of two or three talking about what we are reading." It would be similar to what Jews do. said Clark, which is ,to take a story in the Torah, or first five books of the Old Testament, and through discussion "make a picture". Such an open approach is very much part of Bat Kol. "Sister Maurina Fritz. a professor of religious studies now living in Israel is a founder of Bat Kol. She has been working for years to try and teach people, then get them to go out and spread the word. Not in a church dogma way, but through getting together and talking." Clark stresses that anyone interested in being part of her group need not be concerned that it is going to be "super scholarly". "It is more for discussion. No thought is silly if it's something you're really seeing. It's a kind of Sharing." Clark said people tend to be frightened of Bible study feeling that they perhaps don't know enough to take part in a well-rounded discussion. "This is not going to, be a great philisophical university discussion. It's not going to be degree material. It's just seeing what we get out of what we read." She also notes that Bat Kol is not a religion. "It's learning more about one's own religion and getting more comfortable." Clark said it could also be good for anyone who may not be sure anymore. 'If they're kind of cruising along this could give them a shot in Cathrine Campbell and Leona Armstrong. An executive meeting will be held at the home of Lucy Hesse on Monday, April 26 at 10 a.m. to make out programs for next year. Arrangements were made for the Huron East district meeting on May II at Melville Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Knight is the voting delegate and alternate is Mrs. McLellan. The casserole supper and euchre will be held on April 29 at 6:30 p.m. Proceeds go to the Canadian Cancer Society. The next UFO Day will be at the home of Lucy Hesse on Monday, May 10 at I p.m. the arm." For her part. Clark has travelled twice to Jerusalem to study with Bat Kol. She returned from her second trip this past November. This is not expected of anyone interested in taking part in her group discussions. "We are not trying to convince someone to come study. Should someone want to they would be high on the list of candidates because Bat Kol would like me to have someone here. But we're not recruiting. " Currently, she said, there the number of applicants interested in studying has risen so high that the class size has had to be increased. "If people want to take courses, they have to feel you are going to come back and share. It is what Jesus said, to go out into the world." Anyone interested in speaking - with Clark about forming a discussion group can call 887-6843.
