The community extends sympathy to Karen and David Smith and family on the passing of her grandfather, Jack McCutcheon of Brussels. Also sympathy to the Ward and Davidson families of Monkton on the passing of Jason Davidson of Knox Presbyterian's congregation there. Donna Knight has returned from her trip to Florida where she visited and drove home with her sister Pearl. It was great to see neighbours gathering up garbage left from the winter on the roadsides. It shows we live in a neat area. Special anniversary greetings go out to Charlie and Laura Fischer on the occasion of their 60th wedding anniversary on April 5. Attending a family dinner at the Fireside Café on Sunday with them were Don and Diane Bray, Don and Darlene Fischer, Mark, Tracy, Matthew, Alida and Jenna Swart. We hope Harry Smith will soon recover from his surgery in Stratford hospital. Our prayers are with John Seddon who is back in London Hospital. Eleanor Stevenson and Yvonne Knight attended the Huron-Perth Presbyterial Executive meeting in Seaforth on Monday afternoon. It's hoped everyone is able to take in the many Easter services in the community. Maundy services, Good Friday, and Easter services are being held in Brussels and Monkton. Easter Sunday services will be in Cranbrook. Have a happy family time as well . FROM CRANBROOK BUY? SELL? TRY CLASSIFIED WEDDINGS I don't usually share my opinions unless I have been given a chance to research them thoroughly. Research is an important process in learning, thus helping to achieve wisdom. Today, there is a wealth knowledge available, all within the typing of a few keystrokes. I have used the internet for eight years. Throughout those years, it has grown vastly. My main purpose for connecting to the internet was to collect medical information regarding my disorder. At that time, I had lived with Friedreich's Ataxia for almost 20 years, but my knowledge of what was happening to me was somewhat uneducated. When I first connected in February of 1996, there was little information on my disorder. However, within a few months, information came flowing in— especially after the gene that causes Friedreich's Ataxia was discovered. This finding raised new hopes in developing treatments and finding a cure. Researchers began publicizing their findings to promote their breakthroughs, and the benefits of vitamin/medication supplements were published to educate other sufferers. While researching the effects on my life with Friedreich's Ataxia, many of the issues "snowballed" into information that never has affected me, but I still find the readings interesting. 1 liked to compare other health issues to my disorder, and learn how to integrate other coping techniques with my own. I still do, and I have discovered that although my disorder has formed much of my life, it only dictates me physically. There are other pursuits that interest me too! The internet has other forms of learning as well. Receiving education is something I can do with or without my disorder, which is why 1 enjoy it so much. I like living in my rural area of Huron County, and the internet allows me to take a variety of different courses right here in Brussels. Being able to stay in the comfort of my home is a bonus also, as I am able to focus on learning rather than expending all my physical energy getting to a classroom. I have taken courses on writing, and have found them to be a lot of fun. (Except the course on advanced grammar, but, you live and you . learn.) Right now, I am taking a course on the Art Movement of Impressionism — studying paintings of the masters is another hobby of mine, and I can amuse myself in an art gallery for hours on end! Another activity I use the internet for is shopping — you can buy just about anything you want! Many websites have pictures of the merchandise they wish to sell, and all that is required is your credit card number and it is shipped to you within a few days. Whenever I see the words, free shipping — I am hooked! I have never had an issue with safety, and I find it to be very convenient. So much so, that I need_ to restrain myself sometimes — it can be an addictive shopping experience!
