Lucknow decided on a woman's'
baseball game as a means of
raising funds for their work. The
exhibition game, married women
vs unmarried,' proved successful
'and entertaining. The line-up was

S.G.I.S. Knows!
"Ask S.GlS - It Knows!" read
the many posters. throughout the
halls of the F. E. Madill Secondary
School last week, heralding the
introduction of the Student Guid-
ance Information Service, develop-
ed' and operated by the Ontario
Ministry of Education.
The purpose of S.G.I.S. is to
provide facts necessary in explor-
ing possible vocations and further
education of training.
uses a huge computer at Queen's
Park in Toronto, and has descrip-
tions of nearly every possible
oCcupation - over 7,000! S.G.I.S.
can tell all about a career ... what is
involved on the job, what the
training is, and where the training
can be obtained. If a Person does
not have a career in mind, S.G.I.S.
can be given the 'interests of the
individual and will suggest careers
to be considered!
The service also gives informa-
tion about any university, commun-
ity college, private trade schools,
and apprenticeship programs in
Ontario. In addition it can provide
data on the courses offered, costs,
admission requirements, student
accommodation and housing, fin-
ancial assistance, and so on.
In a letter to parents acquainting
them with S.G.I.S., Principal
Robert P. Ritter stated: "Our
school has joined this computer
service as we believe it will prove to
be of great help in providing our
students with up-to-date:"cotnplete
and accurate information so im-
portant and necessary in selecting
a career and making plans for the
future." '
The Guidance Department, un- •
der its Head, Jack Kopas, will be
instructing 'andassisting the stud-
ents in the use of S.G.LS.

Name Change
An executive meeting of "Alli-
ance for Life", Wingham Branch,
was held on Tuesday, September 9.
The minutes of the last meeting
and treasurer's report were pres-
ented and approved.
•-• A suggestion' was made that the
name be changed from "Voice of
the Unborn" to "Alliance for
Life'', Wingham Branch.
Two more executives will be
added to our group, one of whom is
Mrs, Ivy Smith.
There will be a membership
drive in November. Mrs. Raymond
Schmidt Of Bluevale is the member-
ship chairman. Memberships will
be in effect for one year commenc-
ing January lst.
They have recently appointed 5
• branch chairmen. They are as
follows: Blyth, HMka Bakelaar;
Brdssels, Mary, Anne Ryan; Gorrie,
Mrs. Oscar Kieffer; Lucknow, Bob
Damsma; Teeswater, Isobel
Thompson.
A youth Pro Life group is now
being formed. Also Listowel and
Harriston have been contacted
about organizing an active Pro Life
group.
Plans are now underway to
produce 4 new tapes to be used as
radio commercials.
There will be a Pro Life dance on
October 25 at the Wingham
Armouries.
They feel that one week should
be set aside as "Respect for Life"
week. It was suggested that it
commence on Mother's Day.
"Love Life" will be the theme of
Pro Life exhibits at fall fairs this
year. The meeting was adjourned.

nest of thirty mud turtle eggs
was discovered on the farm of
Kenneth Cameron! West Wawa-
nosh, just south east of Lucknow.
The nest was turned up while Earl
Gaunt was plowing and was'
discovered in a high and dry part of
the field, buried under about five
inches of earth. The eggs were
snowy white, perfectly round and
about the size of an average plum.
