After three months of waiting for
final approval, CKNX received the
go-ahead signal for its TV station.
A team of local firemen challeng-
ed the Lucknow intermediate ball
• team to a game, but went doWn to a
9-7 defeat. Line-up for the firemen
was: George Taylor, 'Innes Mac-
Sween, Bill Johnstone, Bud
Thompson, Stuart Collyer, Tom
Anderson, George Whitby, Murray
Henderson, Floyd Milne and Roy
Havens.
Their opposition included Al
Baker, Hugh MacMillan, Jack
Cook, Don Thompson, Bob Hewat,
Jack Chin, Charlie Chin , and Al
Irwin.

AUGUST 1935
Bruce Liberals chose W. R.
Tomlinson, Port Elgin Barrister, as
standard bearer for the fall Federal
election.
Gideon Ruttle of Ripley was the
unanimous choiceof Bruce Conser-
vatives.
J. Edwin Smith, son of Mr. and
Mrs. James Smith of Lucknow, was
appointed principal of the Listowel
Public School at a salary of $1200.
The appointment to the nine-room
school was made from a' list of 125
applications for the position. He
had been assistant principal of
Goderich Public School.

With Allenford
Ripley Intermediate Fastball
Club all played a tight defensive
game on Tuesday night of last week
to defeat Allenford 3-0 and tie the
best of 5 series at a game each.
Floyd Stanley pitched a two-
hitter and Barry MacDonald drove
in the winning runs in a game that
was a real thriller. Ripley had 5
hits off the Allenford pitcher,
including 2 by Blair Armstrong. Al
Hunter, Jack MacDonald, Elliott
Courtney, Eric McLeod and Art
Stanley all played 'strong defensive-
ly to preserve the victory.

60th Anniversary

We extend best wishes to Mr.
and Mrs. John Ross, concession 10,
on their 60th wedding anniversary
when a family gathering was held
to mark the occasion.
Mr. 'and Mrs. Frank Maulden
returned home on Tuesday from
Fonthill, where they spent the'
week end. Mt's. Doug Palmer and
children returned with them and
spent a few days here.
Paul Burt returned home from
Toronto, where he visited for a .few
days.
Mr. and Mrs. Campbell Brown
and family of Strathroy spent the
'week end with Mr. and Mrs.
Malcolm Lane and Hugh. Gordon
Brown, who spent the summer with
Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Lane and
girls, returned home.
