R. Finlayson of Lucknow has been sold after 60 years in the Finlayson family. The transaction, which, became" effective on Tuesday of this week, sees, Laurence Cowan become the new owner. Larry isrno stranger to this area having married the former Mary Jo Anderson and having lived here in recent years. In 1967 the Cowans built a home on Anderson family property a bout a mile east of Lucknow. This home is presently 'occupied by Mary's mother, Mrs. Torrance Anderson. Last year, on' the same property, the Cowans built a second home which they now occupy. The family includes. Kevin 16, Maureen 15, Michael 13 andEric 7. Larry, a native of Ireland,' worked in the grocery business in Australia before coming to Canada. Prior to coming to Lucknow Larry had been involved in the printing business in Toronto for about 20 years. 'He recently sold his interest in the Toronto printing firm. The sale of the Finlayson business ends a, family association with this Lucknow retail store which lasted 60 years. A. R. Fin- layson, father of Roy Finlayson, the -present owner, started the -business in 1915. He died in 1934 and the business was operated from 1934 to. 1948 by Finlayson 'Bros., Roy and Clark. Roy has 'operated the business alone since 1948. The sale severs one of the oldest family names from the Lucknow business section. Spends Month In Africa Some of the gang from the 1925 era are pictured, left to right, Alex Smith, Roy Finlayson, Allan Murd- Two Huron Barns Destroyed By Fire On Sunday Two barns, about 5 miles north. west of Ripley were destroyed by fire Sunday morning and grain, hay and straw from this year's crops were also lost. The first fire broke out in a large barn owned by Allan Farrell on Highway 21 near Bethel Church. The blaze destroyed about 100 tons of pewly-threshed grain as well ,as, hay and straw. Wind blew sparks from the blaze across Highway 21, starting a fire in a barn owned by Ed Creech. Mr.' Creech alsO lost his grain crop as well as hay and straw. About 12 calves were saved from the blaze. No estimate of damage, is ° available. Ripley firemen fought the two fires.. Died Monday Anna Louise Finnigan, daughter of Raymond Finnigan of Ashfield and the late Lena Ann Chamney, died at Goderich on. Monday; September 1st. The funeral will be held today (Wednesday) at the MacKenzie Memorial Chapel, Lucknow with burial in Dungannon 'Cemetery. Murray entertained members of the family and friends at a 92nd birthday party in honour of Miss Bartlett, who is the house compan- ion of Miss Margaret Murray. These ladies spend their winters in Montreal- and return to Miss Murray's home at Westford for the summer months. The afternoon was spent in a social way and Miss Bartlett took her place of honour, and a beautiful corsage of roses was pinned on by the hostess.
