Farrell's on Thursday, July 17th.
We opened with the 4-H pledge.
Ann Courtney read the minutes of
the last meeting. The roll call was
the progress of'my garden. All of
the gardens are doing quite well.
Each person is to have a different
design on their covers. The covers
hold a lot of information, Our
name, grade, club number, age,
number of previous units, and club
name are to be included. About ten
members of this club will be joining
the next club "A Touch of
Stitchery".
We then went over to Mrs. G.
Farrell's, Leanne's and Ina Far-
rell's garden. We talked about
endive, climbing beans, dusting
cabbages, peas, covering the
potatoes at the bottom with soil,
sweet corn, pruning tomatoes and
others. You should never eat green
sun-burned potatoes, for a disease
of cancer could develop. Dusts and
powders were added to prevent
bugs from harming the plants.
. If you have cabbage that you
don't want to- grow any larger, but

Ina Farrell did the demonstration
about the different colour, flavour,
texture and good food value the
different vegetables have. This
was shown on one of eight versatile
vegetable posters.
Vegetables give you various
minerals that help your body'
function. All about milk and fruit
are included in Canada Food Rules..
Gwen talked about 4 ways of
preserving. They are: canningp -
high temperatures; freezing - low
temperatures; adding chemicals -
waxing turnips; drying. Most
found freezing the best because of
convenience, colour, food .value,
flavour and texture.
Gwen froze green beans, and
Joyce Courtney canned 1 pint of dill
pickles. How is your garden
coming along?
