Mrs. Noble Johnston, presiding, opened the meeting reading a poem, "Some- thing Good". Following the hymn, the aim and purpose of the W.M.S. was repeated in unison. Following the offering Mrs. Johnston made the offertory, prayer. Mrs. Jas. Smith had the Mission Study "Strangers in the Camp", minority groups to which the Presbyterian Church ministers in Canada, Koreans, Chinese, .Ukran- ians, Hungarians, Canadian Ind- ians and Hill tribes' in Formosa. Scripture was read in unison from . Psalm 95 and the commentary was read by N. Malcolm. Mrs. Morgan Heridersot gave a reading "Take No Thought". Mrs. Philip. Stewart gave the Glad Tidings review. Roll call was answered with a verse from .1st Peter. Minutes of May meeting were read and approved. By a vote, it was decided to send $50.00 for work among Korean children in Japan. Mrs. Earl MacDonald closed the meeting with prayer. Kingq:oriche C.W.L. Twenty-four ladies attended the June meeting of the Kingsbridge Catholic Women's League in the Church Hall. Mrs. Eugene Frayne opened, the meeting and welcomed all. Church Life convener, Mrs. Tom Hogan, led in prayer and followed with a scripture reading. Combetmere report was given and special thanks was eXtended to those men and Women that gave of their time and effort to aid in this project. The secretary's and 'treasurer's reports were given. Correspond- ence was given by Mrs. Allan MacKenzie. Items mentioned were as follows, the provincial conven- tion, July 8, 9, 10th, all members were encouraged to attend; thank you notes received were from Mr. and Mrs. Frank, Doherty concern- ing their daughter's recent wed- ding and the help received from C.W.L. for Catering at thewedding dinner, Mrs. Ann LaLonde for their anniversary gift, Mr. and Mrs. Bev Bromley for their ,wedding gift, Mrs. Tom Hogan and baby Tammy for their card and medal received, Mrs. Paul Eedy and the 1st Communion Class for the . corn municant's gifts, Miss Vicki Doh- erty for 1st communion rosary. Mrs. Ann LaLonde gave the roll call and followed with a report on. progress of girl guides and upcciming activities they have Unit 5 U.C.W. The June meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Russell Button. and opened with Mrs.' Charlie Ander- son reading a poem "As WeSew". Hymn 148 was ,isung followed by the roll call. Mrs. Rugsell Button reported on social functions and plans were made for 'catering to a' wedding being held in the church on June 7th. The 'general meeting is to be held on June 12th at Silver Lake Camp.. There will be a pOt luck supper and cars will be leaving the church. at 6.30 p.m. ,Anniversary spoons and mugs which. had been ordered were distributed. The devotional part of the meeting was turned over to Mrs. Clarence Ritchie. 'Hymn 579 was sung followed by a scripture reading by Mrs. Stuart Reavie. Mrs. Jack Ackert read a poem. Mrs: Ritchie, Mrs. Reavie and Mrs. Ackert put on a short skit on "Keeping the Sabbath / Holy" followed by an interesting discus- sion on the subject. Hymn 550 was sung and Mrs. Reavie closed the meeting with a prayer. Lunch was served by the committee in charge. planned. . Mr. and Mrs. Clem Steffler have offered to drive the GuideS to a Jamboree June 14th in Mount Forest. A suggestion was made to give the Steffier's a donation for transportation expen- ses. - Communications and Public Relations convener, Mrs... Allan. MacKenzie, made mention of TV programs such as "Speaking Out" and "Status of Children in Can- ada!'. Mrs. John Howard, as Cultural Life Convener, reported on the recent joint birthday. party, May 27th at yrs. Bernardine Kinney's home. Celebrants were: Mrs. Marie Austin, Mrs. Bernardine Kinney and Brother Carl Voll. Also a birthday message was sent to Mrs. Eva Perey on her , 75th birthday. The Grade Eight Graduation banquet will be held Friday, June 20th. These success- ful graduates will be presented with a pen and pencil set with school's name engraved on them. Mrs. Eugene Frayne thanked the conveners for their reports. - Mrs. Frayne outlined the coming events involving the C.W.L. On Friday, June 13th the League will be catering to the official opening of the Ashfield Township Hall; June 19th a retreat will be held. for the grade eight graduates for Kings- bridge and Clinton at Resurrection Camp. • A noon meal will be provided for fifty to sixty students by the C.W.L. Also help will be needed for the meal June 20th for, these graduates. • An upcoming wedding July 19th for Nark), Chisholm at the Lucknow Legion was discussed. Mrs. Frank Riegling suggested the possibility of having Mary Ann Miltenberg, Dairy Princess, speak to the ladies at the next meeting. St. Augustine and Lucknow C.W.L. ladies joined in the Church' Hall with the Kingsbridge C.W.L. for a very infOrmative and interest- ing report on the Diocesan Conven- tion, May 13 and-14 in Windsor by Mrs. Eugene Frayne. Following this, Mrs. Mark Dalton reported on the one millionth name petition presented in Ottawa, May 28 and 29th. The upcoming Walkathon was mentioned. Mrs. Joseph Hickey and Mrs. Peter MacDonald thanked . these ladies for their reports on behalf of St. Augustine and Lucknow, respectively. An interesting • and worthwhile plant sale was held • with much variety and craftmanship display- ed. Fdllowing this, the ladies socialized together with a delicious lunch. The June meeting . of South Kinloss Women's Missionary Soc- iety was held at the home of Mrs. Herb Buckton. There were 20 present. Mrs. Ira Dickie opened the meeting with a poem, "Life is Made Sweet". The hymn "0 God our help in ages past" was 'sung with 'prayer' by Mrs. Dickie. The, scripture, Hebrews 6, was read by Mrs. Leonard Clarke; a reading on the above passage 'of scripture by Mrs. 'Harry Lavis, followed. by 'a meditation on the The Lord's Prayer by Mrs.. Dickie and Mrs. Clarke. • Plans for a special meeting to celebrate the 100th anniversary, of the Presbyterian Church were made. This meeting is to •be held July 9th at 2 p.m. in the Sunday School room of the church, the speaker to be' Mrs. Gordon S. Baulch of Barrie. The hymn, "Blest be the tie that bind's" was sung, followed with the reading "If JesuS Came to Your House" by Mrs. Philip Steer. The roll call was answered with a 'verse with the word sowing' or sow. The Study 'Book topic was Rural Rout,es by Mrs. Ira Dickie, which told of the work of the church in rural areas. Most Christians on earth are farming people or, people who live near the land. The topic was dealt, with in a niost interesting way. , Mrs. Jack Needham told of the Korean choir who were in Walker- tOn'recently. . A delightful solo by Mrs. Cecil Hoffe was enjoyed, "Guide me 0 Thou Great Jehov- • ah", followed by a reading from "The-Glad Tidings" by Mrs. Evan Keith. Mrs. Allan MacDougall, Mrs. Ted Collyer and Mrs. Alvin Schmidt took part 'in the Prayer Circle. The offertory prayer was by Mrs. Leonard Clarke. A contest on hymns was Conducted by Mrs. Clarke. Courtesy remarks were given and replied to by the hostess. The . closing hymn, "Sun of my soul though Saviour' dear" was sung and Mrs. Philip' Steer closed with prayer. At the close of the meeting Mrs. Glen Noble was' presented with a gift on behalf of the ladies of the congregation. Lois graciously expressed her thanks.
