40th wedding anniversary on May

Mrs. Ed Thom of Lucknow
returned last Saturday from Nor- ,
wood, where she spent three weeks,
with her daughter, Mr. and Mrs.

Ilm Henderson leftlait week for
a vacation in Vancouver. His sister
Mark Elizabeth is employed for the
summer at Lion's. Gate Hospital in
North Vancouver. John Henderson
-ako left last Week :Me Montreal
where he will represent the
Presbytery of • Bruce-Maitland and
-serve as a Yourig Adult Observer to
the. General Assembly of the
Presbyterian Church in Canada.
Ruth Henderson is presently enrol-
led in a Leader Patrol course, a
swimming program being given at
the YW-YMCA in Owen Sound.
All are family of Mr. and Mrs. Jim
Henderson of Litcknovv.
Bob Hunter, of Ponoka, Alberta,
son of Mrs. 'Caswell Hackett,
Lucknow won $1000 in the Ponoka
Lion's 'Club draw recently. Bob
was a resident of Lucknow for a
time a few years ago. "

Lucknow Women's Institute
held their regular meeting in the
assembly room on Monday, June
2nd at 7.30. The • committee, in
charge of the meeting had a lovely
dessert and tea prepared after
which the president,. Mrs. Arm-
strong Wilson welcomed all and
opened the meeting with the Ode
and. Mary Stewart Collect. The
correspondence was read by the
secretary-treasurer, Mrs. Bert .
Gammie and business was dealt
with. An invitation was received ,
from Ripley W.I. to a tea on June
17. Thank you cards were read
from the Golden Circle School at
Wingham for a donation to their
summer camp, also from Mrs. Sam
Gibson, and Mrs. Grace Campbell
for cards and treats.
Lucknow W.I. are to have a
display of crafts at the Museum at
Southampton on July 29th. There
is to be an area picnic at Silver Lake
on Wednesday, June 11th with
picnic lunch at noon.
Mrs. George Kennedy and Mrs.
Ear! MacDonald had information
about different 'bus trips and it was
decided to get • a bus to go to
Niagara on Thursday, June .26th.
The roll call' "New vocations for
women in the last 25 years, was
answered by 26 present. '
A good report of the district
annual, which was held in'Lucknow
was given by Mrs. Alex MacNay
for the morning and .Mrs. Steuiart
MacGillivray for the . afternoon.
Catering to the ,Lions dinner on
Saturday, June 28th was discussed
and some arrangements made.
The next meeting will be 'an .
evening meeting on Monday,
September 8 at 7.30. Mrs. Earl
MacDonald gave the cheerio report
of cards and gifts sent to shut-ins.
Mrs. Ross Shiells was convener
for the program with the. theme
"World Affairs". The motto "The
world is my nieghbour but who are
my friends" was well given by
Mrso George Whitby. What is the
meaning of "Friend" One you can
depend on to stand by you through
thick and thin. Mrs. S. MacGilliv-
ary gave a, pleasing piano instru-
mental.
Mrs. Ross Shiells very capably
gave the topic "Aims and accomp-
lishments of international women's
year 1975". Women must" have a
desire for a better life and must
have a life of their own. The United
Nations are trying to bring women
into public life and it is realized
that women can make a lasting
contribution to world peace. There
must be no discrimination between
men and women or between
different' races. Mrs. Shiells closed
with the Indian prayer, May I
never criticize a man till .1 have
walked a mile in his moccassins.
The meeting closed with - the
Queen.
