Work on the Lucknow District
Lions Club picnic park swung into
high gear on Saturday when the
dense bush on the l and south-west
of the former Jack MacDonald
Garage, now the community fire
hall, was cleared away in the first
step in turning the area into a much'
needed picnic park for the com- munity.
Bill Searle is chairman of the
project and reports that a good
number of Lions gave of their time
and machinery on Saturday, What
was 'a dense wasteland of bush in
the morning was a tidy, riverside,
grove of trees by nightfall as the
Lions members, with the aid of a
bulldozer, really cleaned up the
area.
Pictured, left to right, are some
of the Lions on the job. late
Saturday afternoon. Others assist-
ed before and after this picture , was
taken: Eldon Bradley, Stu Reavie,
Bill Searle, Art Helm, Blake Alton,
Allan Gibson, Barry /vIcDonagh,
Gordon Brooks, Tom Helm and Ray •
Buckmeir.
The site promises to be a fine
community picnic spot. Next step'
will be seeding and later picnic
tables and other facilities will
follow. All Saturday's work was on
the east side of the river.
It is expected that, with club
approval, the Lions share of the
proceeds of the recent Bikeathon
will be directed towards the park
project.
