Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Ritchie and

Sunday afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Cook and
family had on Friday evening her
sister, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Elliott
and family. On Sunday Lorne's
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Cook
visited at the Cook, home.
Bryan Ritchie completed his 2nd
year, on Friday of last week at
Ridgetown College. Bryan is at
home with his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. HarveY Ritchie.
Businessman Died
At Age 47
WILLIAM C. JOHNSTONE
William C. (Bill) Johnstone of
Lucknow died at the Wingham and
District Hospital on Tuesday, April
1st after a lengthy illness. He was.
47 years of age.
Bill was born on December 13,
1927 at Minneapolis, Minnesota,
U.S.A., the, son of the late Russell.
Johnstone and May Caird.
As &young man, Bill assisted his
father in the furniture and, funeral
business while in school, and later
became associated with his dad in
the business on a full time basis.
He apprenticed in the funeral
director profession and received his
licence in 1948. Bill and Russ
continued to operate this business
until Russ Johnstone's : death in
1962 when Bill continued on his
own.
Four years ago, in February, Bill
underwent lung surgery and has
not enjoyed good health since that
time. Three years ago last fall, the
Johnstone Funeral Home portion of
the business was sold, to Robert
MacKenzie of Lucknow and John-
stone's assumed the furniture
. business formerly operated 'by Mr.
MacKenzie_
Far some time Bill has been
assisted in the operation of the
business by his sons, and since his
illness, the business has been
managed by hiS oldest son Ken.
The Johnstone ' furniture and
funeral business was widely known
throughout the lrea, being estab-
lished in 1894.
Bill was Married on November
10, 1951 to the former Beth
Brydges who 'has also been. quite
actively -olved in the 'family
business for many years, particu-
larly since Bill's illness.
Bill was a • member of the

land be a matter of further
discussion by the Board.
The Ministry of Education has
tightened up the procedures for
disposing of land and/or buildings
since the days when one-room
schools in the County were
auctioned. The following steps are
mandatory procedure for dispos-
ing, by sale, lease or otherwise, of
a building: (a) the building must
first be offered for sale or lease to
any other school hoard having
jurisdiction in the same area. (b) if
not required by another board,
application must be made to the'
Minister to ,sell, lease or otherwise
dispose of the building. The
application must be supported by
data to the effect that (I) the Board
will not require additional atcotn-
modation to replace that under
consideration in the" attendance
area of the school within ten years
of the date of disposal; and (ii) that
the building has been offered in
writing to the following in succes-
sion: - any post-secondary institu-
tions which might be interested, or
the municipality where the building
is located or Conservation Author-
ities cf Provincial and Federal
Governments.
If after offering the building to
the bodies referred to above, the
board receives no written response
within three months from the date
of offer it may, with the approval of
the Minister, dispose' of the
building through the process of
public tender.
After further discussion by the
board there will be a ratepayer's
meeting in the Township.
Lucknow Fire Department for over ,
20 years and was a member of Old
Light' Masonic Lodge.
Besides his wife Beth, he is
survived by three sons, Kenneth of
Lucknow, Allan and Tom at home;
a daughter Eleanor at . home;
daughter-in-law Karen and two
granddaughters; a sister, 'Mrs.
Jack (Jane) Treleaven of. Lucknow
and an uncle, D. MacLean John-
stone of London.
He was predece,ased by his
father and mother and a brother.
Donald in 1962.
The funeral service was conduct-
ed on Saturday; April 5th from the
MaCKenzie Memorial Chapel in
,Lucknow at 2 p.m. Temporary
interment was made at South
Kinloss Mausoleum with the final
resting place to be South Kinloss
Cemetery. Rev. George Garratt of
St. Peters Anglican Church con-.
ducted the service, with Mrs.
Thomas Pritchard as. organist.
Pallbearers were Eldon Rous-
selle, Paul Rousselle, Harry Bryd- I
ges, Elmer Culbert, Roy Havens,
Joe Agnew.
