For Coming Year
St. Helens Women's Institute
held their annual meeting Thurs-
day,
,
April 9 with nineteen ladies
present. The meeting followed a
pot luck dinner at 12.30 p.m.
Mrs. Peter Chandler opened the
meeting with the Ode and 'Mary
Stewart Collect. The assistant
secretary-treasurer, Mrs. Gordon
Struthers read the minutes of the
April meeting, the treasurer's
report and the correspondence.
Business was dealt with. Dona,
tions were to be given to Mental
Health, Agriculture Societyand the
village light. Choices of Short •
Courses and Food Forums were
made. An invitation from Blyth
W.I..was received to help celebrate
their 65th anniversary on, the
evening of May 12. St. Helens
W.I. was invited to Lucknow on
April 29 to a workshop on !`W.I.
'Procedures".
The Cancer Canvass kits were
given out and. are to. be completed
by April 17. Mrs. Jim AitchiSon
gave a, report on the Executive
meeting held in Auburn Monday,
April 7 which she and Mrs. Peter
Chandler attended.
The committee in charge of
Federation Banquet .April 18 gave
a report. AB enjoyed a sing song.
The. report of the secretary-
treasurer and the reports of
standing committees for the past
year were. given.

Hearts Club
The April meeting of the Ripley
Happy Hearts Club took the form of
a Card Party with, the committee in
charge being Bert Irwin and Sam
Emerson. 'Miss .Gertrude Kidney,
acted as hostess f6r the. day. Most
successful card players 'proved to,
be Mrs. Ardell Mason and Reg
Godfrey.' •The; business portion of
the meeting was in charge onvles.
Wrn. Arnold and Mrs. Frank ScOtt
who took Mrs. Donald Blue's place
as secretary.
Reg Wore. reported a most
happy trip to Belmore Pancake
Festival on April 8th. 'He also said
the contract had been let for Senior
Citizens Housing Units and it .was • hoped construction could begin in'
May. 'The upper, story of the
medical building is almost com-
plete. Mrs. Arnold reported on use

Treat Injuries
At Hospital
Merrill Fisher, Gorrie, 'was
driver of a truck' involved in a
collision near Toronto on March 30.
He was, treated for rib injury and
released. Investigated by Toronto
Police.
David Humphrey, lucknow was
driver of his car when it went out of
control and rolled on Highway #4
four miles north of Wingham.,, He
was treated for an arm' injury and
released.
Mrs. Debbie Humphrey, Luck-
now, was , a 'passenger in the car
driven by her husband, when the
car went out of control. She was
examined and discharged from
hospital.

March Activities
Our ministers for the month were
Rev. Wilmer MMke, Lutheran,
Mildmay; Rev. Ed Martin, Pente-
costal, Hanover; Rev: D. Kemble,
Presbyterian, Walkerton; Rev. H.
Stevenson, United Chesley; The
Salvation Army, Hanover. '
We had bingo at 2.00 p.in. on
'Tuesday, March 4th. In the
evening there was a Gideon
service at ' 7.00 p.m.
The C.W.L. held a euchre party
on Thursday; March 6th, with a.
large attendance. The residents
received fruit as prizes-, which they
really enjoYed.
On . Friday, March 7th the
World's. Day of Prayer was held in
the auditorium at 1.30 p.m, Ladies
froM all the churches took part in
the service.
Our resident council was' held in
the Libraryt 10.30 a.m. on March
llth. It was decided to make felt I
Shamrocks for' all the residents for
St. Patrick's Day. We had 6 of our
ladies make them with the help of
Mrs. Hussey. Miss Betty Black
pinned them on our residents.
On Wednesday, March 12th, we
had our bi-monthly movie which
proved to be very interesting, and
was enjoyed by all.
We had a combination quiz
contest and, Spelling Match on
Friday, March 14th. There were
prizes for the winning, team, and
our residents all did exceptionally
well.
The Kinette Club of Walkerton
entertained our residents' to a St.
Patrick's bingo on Monday, the
17th of March.. There was a very
large attendance and enjoyed by
all.
The C.G.I.T. Group of the
Presbyterian Church, Tiverton,
came and put on a lovely program'
and sing-song on Tuesday, March
18th.
On Wednesday, March 19th, the
ladies auxiliary of the Legion, held
a bingo 'in our auditorium with a
capacity crowd.
Our monthly birthday party was
put on by the Port Elgin United
Church Women On March 21st.
There were 14 of our residents with'
birthdays in March. They had
a lovely program, with Mrs. Boyd,
a very talented singer, favoring us
with many lovely old Scotch Songs.
Thursday, March 27th; the
children from the Day Care Centre,
along with their teachers, came and
put on a lovely Easter program.
They brought 2 large bunny cakes,
very tastefully decorated, which
were enjoyed by our residents,
along with orange juice.
On Good Friday there was a
special Gideon service at 2.30 p.m.
The singing Heiwig family froM
Owen Sound provided the music,
which was much enjoyed.

This was given to bring extras to
our Senior Citizens and has proven
most helpful.
All of Rev. Duncan MacTavish's
writings, in book form, have been
sold but 'la very small number.
Members were in 'favour of sending
2 delegates to U.S.C.O. ir, Ottawa
in August. Some possibilities for
summer bus trips were discussed.
The. May meeting will start with a
Pot Luck luncheon at noon. Lunch
was served _to nearly 60 members
by Mrs. Mervyn Hooey, Mrs.
Nellie MacLeod, Mrs. Minnie
Wylds, Ardell Mason, Miss Christ-
ene Robertson and Jack Scott.
Ardell Mason had made a fine
bulletin board which' will prove
useful in the future. Cards were
signed for sick members, Mrs.
Belle Henry, Mrs. Ralph Hunter-
and Mrs. Herb Farrell.
