BASKETBALL • The winner of the girls intramur- al basketball was Barbara Grubb's team consisting of Kerry Boyle, Ripley Lions Club Member Named Zone Chairman Contributed. On March 27, the Ripley Lions skating carnival was a great success. This was dile to the large participation of the community and because of all those who gave money and prizes for the occasion. On April 5th and 6th, twelve "couples from the Ripley and District 'Timis Club travelled to Stratford to attend the, 1st annual . District A9. Lions Convention.. At this time past president Lion Alan ' McLean was elected Zone chair- man 3' North for the coming year. Those club members who attended were: Lions President gill Kemp- ton and his wife Janet, Rod and Audrey MacDonald, Alan and Marion McLean, Dan and Sheila MacDonald, Cliff and Sandra Emrnerton, Bernie and Shirley Twolen, Bob and Wilhelmine Fair, Harry and Ev Coiling, Charles and Barbara Liddle, Ambrose and Marion Gamble, Joe and Janice Hodgjns, Frank and Judy Van ' Kooten. The convention was attended by thirty-eight Lions and their wives from our twin Lion District, California. Saturday afternoon, While the 'men held their meeting, the women enjoyed- a trip to the Avon theatre and a tour of the city. At a banquet 'which ,hosted 800 people on Saturday night "Moon" Kosjer spoke to the audience on "How Grateful am I or are You". He expressed the view of how fortunate we are in this country. He asked all to look at how grateful we should be to be free -to serve mankind and as Lions to help serve for the betterment of community life in these wonderful communit- ies you and I 'live in. Sunday morning the convention ended with the elections and the chairman reports. ' On Wednesday, April 9 the regular Ripley meeting was held. The feature of the evening was the public speaking contest. The contestants were Debbie Zipfel; Donna Huber, Mary Anne Coiling, Marian Meurs in the English speaking competition and Jocelyne Poirier in the FrenCh competition. Donna Huber and Jocelyne Poirier went on to represent the Ripley • club at the Zone competition in Lucknow. Judges Eileen MacDon- ald, Marion Emerson, Rev. Bob Putman had a difficult time as all the speeches were excellent. Irene Liddle, who' won the Lions Radio Bingo, gave a' donation to the club for their use in the community.
