The minutes of the March
eeting were read and adopted on
otion of Councillors Hickey and )ran,
Three members of the Mennon-
! community were in attendance
at the meeting to question Council
about the severance of a piece of
property for a cemetery.
Only one tender for the supply of
a new motor grader for the
Township was received, and it was
opened at this time. Motion by
Councillors Hickey and Cranston:
"That the Township of West
Wawanosh 'accept the tender of

Tragedy struck . the Teeswater
and Lucknow communities on the
week end as four teenagers were
killed in a l flaming two-car heaclon
collision. Two other young
Whigham area men were seriously
injured in the same crash.
The two cars were travelling in
opposite directions on Highway No...
4, about 3 3/4* miles south of
Teeswater on the bend , at the
Belmore junction, knoWn to Tees-
water' area residents as being
opposite the farm of Harold
McCormick.
The accident occurred just before
midnighl Saturday'and the noise of
the impact was heard by the. Paul
Kennedy family who reside nearby.
The Kennedys, looking ont their
window, noticed a car on the

immediately " phoned Teeswater
Fire Department who were on the
scene in minutes. The explosion of
the gas tank on impact caused one
of the vehicles to burn beyond
control and be unapproachable
from the time the first passing
motorist stopped to assist:
Chief james McBurney of the
Teeswater Fire Department said
the blaze had destroyed most of the
car when his equipment arrived.
Driver and owner of the north-
bound car, who was pronounced
dead at the scene, was Randolph
Peter (Randy) Willie, age 17, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Willie .of
Teeswater. One of the three
passengers in his car, Bud Bruce
Harvey Hogiton, 15, only son of
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Houston of

Teeswater, died later in Victoria
•Hospital, London before his par-
ents arrived, at the hospital.
The other two passengers in the
Willie car, Wayne and . Ronnie
Doerr, ages 18 and 16, sons of Mr.
and Mrs. Herb ' Doerr .of R. R..2
Wingham, were very seriously'
injured in the accident' and were
removed to Victoria Hospital,
London. They received multiple
injuries.
As this was written • Tuesday
morning,. 18-year-old Wayne re-
mained in critical condition with a
skull fracture and chest injuries..
His 16-year-old brother Ron was
still serious, but responding to
treatment. Both boys farmed and
resided at home.
All four boys were first cousins to
one another.
Proceeding south on Highway
No. 4 was the. vehicle of John Van
Boven of Walkerton and containing
John and his friend Stewart Mann
of Lucknow. The impact of the
collision caused an explosion in the
Van Boven auto, engulfing the car
in flames in seconds. Both John,
age 19 and Stewart, age 18 were
burned beyond recognition in the
flaming auto and positive identifi-
cation was not possible for a
considerable time after the accid-
ent. Both young men were
believed to have been killed
instantly in the collision according
to passing motorists who were on
the scene immediately.
John Van .Boven formerly resid-
ed on the 6th of Kinloss and
completed grade 12 at the F.
Madill Secondary School in' Wing-
ham last year. The family later
moved to Walkerton where he was
employed by Canada Packers and
where he resided with his mother,
brother and sisters. His father,
John Van Boven, is a resident of
Woodstock.
Stewart Mann is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Eldon- Mann of Lucknow
and had been employed after
school' and on Saturday , at the
Machan Hardware in Lucknow
where he had made many friends
and acquaintances, of all , age
groups. He was in grade 12 at the
F. E. Madill Secondary School and

Set Up Memoriai
To Stewart Mann,
Team End Season
A memorial plaque in memory of
18-year-old Stewart Mann will be
set up by members of the Lucknow
Minor Hockey, Association in which
he' was so actively involved for
many years. Stewart's death
occurred in a motor accident this
past week end. ,
Donations were accepted as
expressions of sympathy at the
MacKenzie Funeral Home prior to
Wednesday's funeral.
Stewart's No. 11 sweater with
Lucknow Juvenile hockey team will
be retired from the team. In
addition to the plaque, a Stewart
Mann Memorial trophy will be
donated annually to the leading
scoter in the Lucknow Minor
Hockey System.
The Lucknow Juvenile hockey
team had set up a grand champion-
ship series with . Mount Forest on
Saturday, and were scheduled to
begin play. However., with
Stewart's tragic death, the team
decided to end their season and will
not play the Mount Forest series.

There has been considerable
liscussion at the last three monthly
laro'n County Board of Education
neetings concerning the future of
Worth Ashfield School.
The Board has approved (a) that
he North Ashfield Public School
'ease to operate as an Elementary
school on June 30, 1975, as there
vould be only 27 pupils (9 in Grade
5 and 18 in Grade 6). (b) that
pupils who would normally attend
such school for and after the
197576 school year be enrolled at
Brookside Public School. (c) that
an exisiting portable classroom be
located at Brookside Public School.
(d) that the inventory of furnishing,
equipment and supplies,existing in
the North Ashfield School on June

Drainage of the Caledonian Park
came in for further discussion at
the regular Lucknow Council \meet-
ing on Tuesday of last week.
At the previous council meeting,
a month earlier, a decision • was
reached to engage the engineering
firm of A. W. Clark to do
\preliminary engineering on a
drainage system. . .
Reeve George Joynt spoke in
favour of using steel arc pipe and

At Regular Village Council Meeting,
Plan For Summer Road Program
"Wheels" Will
Be Project Of
Three Groups
A meeting was held at Brookside
School on April 8' to discuss plans
for a Bikeathon. It was decided to
hold this event on May 24 in
Ashfield Township. It will be
called "Wheels".
It was decided that 1/3 of the
money will go to the Ashfield
Recreation Committee, 1/3 will' go
to .the Lucknow and District
Kinsmen Club and 1/3 will go to
the Lucknow Lions Club. All three
organizations will help to plan this
Bikeathon.
It was decided 'that there should
be an organization meeting on
Thursday, April 17 at 8.30 p.m. at ,
Brookside School. It is the
committee's hope that all interest-
ed people will be at this meeting
and make "Wheels" a big success.
