Unit 1 U.C.W.
Unit 1 of Lueknow United Church,
Women held their regular meeting
in the' Christian Edrication room at
the church on Tuesday afternoon,
March 4th. Mrs. Sam Gibson
Welcomed all and opened the
meeting with a poem, "Life Has Its
.Quiet corners", followed by the
hymn "Come .let us sing of a
wonderful love" and prayer.
, The roll call was answered by 20
Members present giving their
thoughts on how the meetings
could be improved which was very
interesting. Mrs. Clarence Irwin
for Citizenship gave a paper on 'Dr.
Harriet Christie who passed away
in Edmonton a short time ago,
Mrs. Water Dexter gave the report
of visiting shut ins for community
friendship. - •
Mrs. Al Irwin for Stewardship
gave a reading "This Old' Clay
House". Mrs. Pete Cook gave the
treasurer's report and Mrs. W. G.
Hunter reported for social func-
tions. .
The April meeting will be at the
home of Mr.S. Wes Ritchie. The
Thankoffering 'meeting will be
April 10th at 8 p.m. when Lavonne
Ballagh of. Winghani will speak.
Mrs. Sam Gibson gave a report
on the Bruce Presbytery held in
Hanover on February 28.
Mrs. W. G. Hunter as convener
for devotional chose the theme
Easter. The program opened by
singing the' hymn "Beneath the
Cross of Jesus". Mrs. Hunter read
passages of scripture suitable for
Easter. Mrs. M. Gibson gave a
reading "He Is Risen" and Mrs.
W. Dexter gave the meditation on
the crucifixion and resurrection.
Mrs. Bob Helm gave a reading
"The Dogwood Tree" and' the
program closed by singing the
hymn "There is a green hill far
away". Unit I then joined units 2
and 3 in the Fellowship room where
Mrs. Bert Alton was chairman for
the program. Mrs. Eldon Bradley
introduced Rev. Douglas Kaufman,
who gave a commentary and who
showed slides taken during •the
eight years he spent in Saksatche-,
wan. The slides showed churches
of the two parishes and different
activities in which he was involved
and scenery' of Saskatchewan and
British Columbia where he spent
his summers. All found the
pictpres most interesting,. Mrs.
Jack Treleaven thanked Mr. Kauf-
man. Mrs. Harvey Webster played
piano selections during lunch
which was served by the commit-
tees from the three units ,

WHITECHURCH
WhiteChurch-Langside Young
Peoples Society held their meeting
on Sunday 'evening at 8.30 . in
Langside Church. Helen Weirsma
was in charge of the service. The
scripture was. Romans 10:' 1-10.
The members then were divided
into 5 groups of 3 and the question,
What:is Missions, was discussed.
All then came together and
discussed 'the findings of each
group. A pancake: supper was
planned to be held at' Langside'.
Grace was sung and lunch was.
served by the committee. •

The regular meeting of Trinity.
United Church Women was held at
the home of . Mrs. Chester Hackett
On Thursday afternoon, March 13,
with 20 ladies attending. The
meeting opened with the singing of
'Hymn 30,' Praise my soul the King
of Heaven and all then repeated the
Lord's prayer in unison.
The President, Mrs. Charles
Wilkins, read a poem on Spring
and led in a short prayer. The roll
call was answered with an article or
apron for the Craft Festival. Mrs.
Wm. Andrew led. in "the devotions,
with her theme being "Earth's
Richest Hill". All repeated the
well known hyinn "There is a green
hill far away". Mrs. Andrew read
the scripture from John', hymn Oh
Jesus I have ,promised and Mrs%
Reg BrooMe gave more scripture
reading. Mrs. Andrew had a poem
"Crucify" and then gave, the
meditation. Hymn "Jesus. I my
cross have taken" followed and
Mrs. Andrew closed the devotions
with prayer. Mrs. Alex Hackett
had a Poem "St. Patrick's. Birth-
day". Mrs. Chester Hackett gaVe
the study book "Misson and the
Family". A short play was,
presented on Teen' Age Problems,
with Mrs. Donald Hackett, Mrs.
Ken Alton, Mrs. Doug Raynard
and Mrs. D. A. Hackett taking
part. Mrs. Ken Alton gave the
Trinity Tattler.
The business portion followed,
with considerable discuSsion of the
History Book which we are making,
Another bale is to be packed after
the April meeting. The Apron
Contest was judged with Mrs. Alex
Hackett receiving first for the
long-work apron, Mrs. Blake Alton
for the short-work, apron and Mrs.
Jerry Cranston for thenovelty. The
meeting cloSed with the singing of
hymn "The church's one founda- .
tion". This hymn was used at
Union in 1925. Lunch was served
by the committee in charge.

Lenten Message
On March 4, 24 ladies attended
the. St. Joseph,'s Catholic Women's
League' held in the church hall.
Mrs. J. Howard opened the
meeting and Fr. Dentinger led in
prayer: The scripture reading-from
John 4: and the Holy Year Prayer
was given by Mrs, A. Van "Osch.
South Kinloss , Presbyterian
Church are hosts to the World's
Day of Prayer on March 7, to, which
the ladies are invited. The
treasurer's report and. correspond-
ence was given. A dehumidifier
was purchased for the kitchen. The
Goderich Psychiatric Hospital need
volunteers to hdp -with patients
during the spring and summer
months. Madonna' House, Coin,
bermere s, Ontario, needs clean
ased .clothing, so boxes will be sent
this spring.

Several. ladies attended the meet-
ing in Goderich to hear the
Honourable Frank Miller in re-
gards to the Muster Report. News

shown and ladies were assured that
the ; general hospitals won't be '
closed. Ashfield Council is held the
lst and 3rd .Tuesday monthly and
the ladies plan to attend regarding.

Mrs. D. Dalton made an afghan
arid matching pillow and the league
is buying her a quilt kit.. Tickets
will be sold on this afghan, pillow
and quilt and the draw will be held
during the summer: Mrs. W. Clare
reported on the mother and
daughter Girl Guide and Brownie.
Banquet'.. The •C.W.L. sponsor
Brownies, Girl Guides and 4-H at
Kingsbridge. The grade 8 gradu-
ates. are to be asked' for suggestions
on what they want as graduation '
gifts (a pin or pen).. Mrs. W. Clare
(in charge of St. Patrick's Party),
reported on its progress. It was
decided that the phone committee
would assign ladies (by roads)
either to bring baking or sandwich-
es. The silver collection from this
party will be used in .kitchen
improvements.
Father Dentinger IS checking to
see who in the parish are 70 and 80
so\thet birthday cards can be sent.
Mrs. J.. Courtney reminded the
ladies of the Pro-Life meeting every
3rd Monday monthly.. Mrs. J.
Courtney also congratulated the
pulic speaking winners Mary
Lu{nne Clare and Jackie Dalton.
The H.P.R.C.S. Board passed
the following resolutions for Lent.
(1) children are asked to pray for'
the world's starving; (2) Holy Year
1975, teachers and students are
encouraged to make voluntary
sacrifices to aid the starving; (3)
the return of penance; (4) encour:
age children to write their M.P.
supporting .Canada as a leader in
aiding the starving.
Father Dentinger thanked the
ladies for all their help throughout
the year. Everyday a class says a
decade of the RoSary and attend-a
noon Mass and Stations of the
Cross. 'Before Saturday evening
and' Sunday morning Mass, the
Rosary, is said. If possible watch
the TV program, Church Today
(Sunday 8.00 a.m.). Prayer,
penance and' parent. example is
extremely important in everyday
life. This gives children an
excellent understanding of Christ-
ian Life.
The annual Meeting and election
of officers will be held in April.
The nomination committee are
Mrs. S. Doherty, Mrs. C. Riegling
and Mrs. P. VanOsch. Mrs. B.
Berry adjourned the meeting arid

The March meeting of St.
AugtiStine 'CW.L. was held on
Monday, March 10th in the. Church
Vestry with 14 members present.
Fr. Dentinger opened the meet-
ing with prayer. Mrs. Wm.
Kinahan.- 'president, was in the
chair.
Mrs. Wm. Redmond read the
minutes of the last meeting. Mrs.
Cyril Boyle read the correspond-
ence. Mrs. JOe Hickey gave the
financial report. Mrs. Raymond
Boyle took roll call.
A list of C.W.L. members names
were compiled for a small private
prayer service each Thursday or
Sunday. Rosary before Mass was
discussed and C.W.L. ladies will
lead fora month while the Youth
Club lead for the following month.
C.W.L. nomination' committee
was drawn up. Mrs. Ted
Redmond, Mrs. Albert Plasschaert
and Mrs. Ken Leddy will be in
charge of the ballots; distribution,
collecting and counting the ballots'
and reporting this at the April
meeting.
The C.W.L. voted to make a
donation to. the Provincial Conven-
tion and also to "Pro-Life".
The next C.W.L. card party was
discussed, and will be held on
