' Chairman •for the evening was Clem Steffler, principal of St. Joseph's School at Kingsbridge., Judging the contest were Jack Kepis 'of the F.E. Madill Second- ary School, Wingham; Mrs. Glen Walden of 'Lucknow and George Armstrong of the Ripley-Huron Central School: Winner in the senior division; grades 7 and 8, was Mary Luanne Clare, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Clare of R. R. 7 Lucknow. She spoke on "My Trip to Hawaii". Placing second in this class was Suzanne Corrin, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. M. H. Corrin of Lucknow, speaking on "Teachers". Mary Luanne attends St. Josephs School , in kingsbridge and Suzanne at- tends Lucknow Central Public SchOol. Others entered in the class were Lynn Elphick, Brookside ,Public School, speaking' on "Marilyn Bell"; Lori Jamieson, Brookside, "Yon ands. Your Library"; John O'Keefe, St. Josephs,, "N.H.L. Hockey Referees"; Alice Vander Klippe, Lucknow Central, "My Trip to Holland". Eight were entered in the junior division for grades 4, 5, 6. Winner was Marilynne Maclntyre, daugh- ter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Machatyre of the 2nd of Kinloss, ,speaking on "The Stanley Cup". Placing second was Jackie Dalton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Dalton, R..R, 3 Goderich, with the'. topic ."Hands". • Marilynne attends Lucknow Cen- tral Public School and Jackie is a student 'at St. Josephs Separate School at Kingsbridge.. Others speaking were Brenda Henderson, Brookside School, with the topic. "The Telephone"; Mur- ray Gilchrist, Lueknow Central, "Movies"; Mary Lillian Simpson, North Ashfield, "Music"; Debbie Austin, St.. Josephs, "Babysit- ting"; Sherra 'Lee Bridle, Kinloss Central, "Books"; Jennifer Dren- nan, Brookside, "Canada". The first prize winners received' $3 in cash from Legion president Angus MacDonald, plus a personal trophy for their keeping as well as a larger school trophy which they retain for a year. The second prize winner receiv- ed $3, and all other entries received $2. These were presented' by Mr. MacDonald. Stuart Collyer presented the judges with gifts. Messrs. Kopas and. Armstrong both commented on, the speeches advising the young -people what they., as judges were, looking for in a speaking contest - and how they might improve their style. They Were complimentary of the quality of speeches. THAT Mrs. Alf (Ellen) Ritchie of Lucknow has been named Lucknow librarian by the Bruce Co. Library Board. DUNGANNON Mrs. Elma Reed was admitted to University Hospital in London on Tuesday and underwent surgery on Thursday. Her friends wish her a speedy recovery. MOVING TO CLINTON Her neighbours and friends presented a gift to Mrs. George Rivett, who' is moving to Clinton. The house she rented here has now been sold. Mr. and Mrs. Robt. -Irvin and Mr. •and Mri. Fred Stirling attend- ed . the wedding of Mrs. Irvin's niece in Molesworth with reception in Atwood. ' Mr. and Mrs. Harvey .Congram and daughter. Barbara visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Ivers. Barbara plans to stay a.few days with Mrs. Ivers. Mr. Ivers entered Wingham Hospital where he is scheduled for surgery on Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Peter Louzon from Windsor visited on the week end with his parents, Mr. • and Mrs. Marvin Smith. Mr. and Mrs. Win. Garton from Leamington and Mr. A.
