Opening Sept. 27, this production is a real coup for Theatre on the Grand. Theatres from around the country were vying for this piece, says the Theatre’s Artistic and Executive Director Christopher McHarge. “It was an honour to be chosen to pres ent this important work.’’ Rich in metaphor, deliciously comic and glittering with insight, The Edible Woman chronicles the fantas tic and dramatic ego disintegration of Marian McAlprin who seems at first to be a perfectly conventional young woman, with friends, a successful and attractive man in her life, and a good job. Everything in her life seems to fly out of control just as Marian seems ready to fulfill “every woman’s dream” of trading in her troublesome job for marriage and a new life at home with children. Canadian author Margaret Atwood is known throughout the world for her short stories, poetry, and fiction including The Handmaid's Tale and Alias Grace. This adaptation of The Edible Woman, a novel first pub lished in 1969, was written by Canadian playwright Dave Carley. Born and raised in Peterborough Carley now lives in Toronto where he works for CBC Radio Arts and Entertainment as the radio drama script editor. His plays have been produced extensively across Canada and the United States, and in many overseas nations including Australia, England, the Netherlands, Belgium and Japan.
