It has been a busy summer for me and my family. At the end of June my two youngest kids Geoff and Cassandra and I travelled home to Vanderhoof. B.C. where I attended my high school reunion. The reunion gathered together those graduating from 1970-75. It was wonderful to see old friends again. It was even more wonderful to see that I wasn't the only one who had gained weight over the years. Ha! While there my family and I sprinkled my dad's ashes over the Trying it the hard way, contestants took on the task of log sawing, one of several adult special events held each year at the Huron Pioneer Thresher Reunion. My visit wouldn't be complete if I didn’t sit and listen to some of those. Last weekend we were away up north near Parry Sound where we stayed at Jim's dad's cottage. I am happy to announce that every time we all went fishing I caught the first fish. There were some poor losers who complained that my fish was too small to count, but the contest never mentioned anything about the first fish being a particular size. It was a wonderful time. I hope that everyone enjoyed a fun. relaxing summer. If you want to tell me about it just give e a call. Neil and Marie McGavin have been having a very busy summer travelling to plowing matches throughout Ontario. As president of the Ontario Plowmen's Association, Neil is helping organize the International Plowing Match and farm machinery show to be held Sept. 19 at Elora in Wellington County. The couple have attended local matches in Perth, Essex County, Peel-Dufferin, Durham Region, Lindsay, Lanark Co, Ottawa, Kingston and Middlesex County. A shower for Susan Carter was held at Duff’s United Church on Sept. 8. Helen Craig was in charge of the program. Marjory Humphries read a poem to Susan, Marie McGavin led the sing song and a fun game of ‘What Susan should take on her honeymoon’ was played. The shower wouldn't have been complete without the antics of JoAnn McDonald (who played the bride) and Jane Zwep (the groom) singing their very own song. Hollywood here they come! Susan's very close friend, Morgan Terpstra gave the address. The bride- to-be opened her many* wonderful gifts and after thanking everyone the evening ended with the guests enjoying cake and ice cream which was prepared by the church ladies. much more.
