FROM BRUSSELS Marching to their drummer’s tune Brussels Legion Pipe Band performed for the visitors at the annual Huron Pioneer Thresher Reunion on Saturday afternoon. (Vicky Bremner photo) HE committee calls tenders At the Aug. 31 meeting of the Huron East property committee, the committee reviewed final drawings of the proposed renovations to the Seaforth Town Hall. The committee directed architect Guy Bellehumeur to call tenders for the proposed ren ovations with tenders to close on Sept. 21 at 5 p.m. The transition board accepted the recommendations of the administra tive committee with respect to sever al staff appointments. Everyone needs to feel they are treated the same so that rural is not second class to urban.” Dunbar believes he is a good can didate because of his political expe rience and his ability to get things done. During his tenure on Grey coun cil, the township attained the lowest tax'rate in the county, they were first to establish nutrient management plans for intensive livestock opera tions and first with a rural blue box program. The goal is “efficient and respon sible local government,” Dunbar said. Of his expectation for the coming term, Dunbar said he would focus on safe drinking water for all urban and rural areas, economic develop ment for the entire municipality and a strong voice for Huron East. Dunbar is taking on Seaforth Reeve Lin Stettler. Several properties have changed hands in the village this year. It’s a time to think of days gone by, the good times, the sad times and after the time of pondering, it’s time to look to the future with new neigh bours and lots of good times to be made. So welcome to the neighbour hood! ing official. In preparation for the 2000 munic ipal elections (Nov. 13) the board decided that advance polls will be held on Nov. 3 in Brussels and Seaforth. The board did not finalize a deci sion with respect to the position of tire chief of the new municipality and the board directed staff to obtain further information with respect to several fire department issues for consideration at the next meeting. The Huron East transition board will meet on Sept. 11 and 25 with both meetings commencing at 7 p.m. i-> WE HAVE <-i MOVED The Citizen office in Brussels moved to a new location. It’s good to have life in the manse again. At the ball park on Saturday night I thought they had changed the rules and time for Queen of the Fair but then I remembered that they are now called Ambassadors. Thus, the lineup that I was viewing would not have fit the fair board rules. If you weren’t at the 9 p.m. game you missed the latest rendition of original beauties - the 5R’s version of the California Cuties were playing in the men's town league tournament. Breathtaking, gut wrenching and truly enjoyable would describe the ball players. Their fash ion co-ordinator did a superb job as the players were transformed beyond COMING EVENTS at the BRUSSELS LEGION SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 16 Euchre Tournament downstairs at 1.00 p.m. Bring your own partner. Even the pink dress didn’t keep him from resembling Yasser Arafat with his wig matching his beard.
