The Citizen, 2000-09-06, Page 3THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 2000. PAGE 3. FROM BLYTH Kathy Corner v On Friday, Sept. 1, 46 people attended the monthly Blyth and area Dining Out program at Trinity Anglican Church. This month roast beef, oven-roasted potatoes, corn and coleslaw were served topped off with apple pie. Special guests were Verna Edgar who brought Everett Scrimgeour and George Wright from the Seaforth Manor. Birthdays were announced for Hermina Dyk, Elliott Lapp, Edgar Expressing herself This youngster took great pleasure in performing as she participated in a musical theatre exercise called “What are You Doing?” during the summer recreation classes offered in Blyth. Those involved had the opportunity to test their voice, dance, and learn a little acting. Howatt and Jean Nethery. Anniversaries this month will be celebrated by Bill and Isabelle Craig celebrating their 50th; Elsie and Jim Walsh and George and Edyth Wright from Seaforth Manor who will be celebrating their 64th anniversary. Happy Birthday and happy anniver sary were sung. Doris Hicks was the winner in the monthly 50/50 draw while Verna Edgar received the door prize. Unfortunately the guest speaker RCMP Renzo Canniato from London was unable to attend due to neck problems. It is said that every thing happens for a reason and sure enough, this was proven again. A few minutes prior to the meal being served, Janice Henry came in to make an announcement. The Great Canadian coach was visiting Blyth. The beautiful blue bus, highlighted with war scenes on the outside is referred to as Number 11-11 “Lest we Forget”, a tribute to our veterans. Let us remember their courage, their dedication and their patriotism. If we forget too soon, in vain, they will have died, those who lie in Flanders Fields, where the poppies grow, row by row. Blyth Legion Branch 420 President Crystal Taylor and Vice- President Thelma Johnston handed out pocket calendars and informa tion books on this lovely bus, a won derful tribute? to our veterans. I spoke with the driver, who told of a couple who had met on this vehicle and later were married on it. Two widows became involved in the trips to help pass time and are now the best of friends. Many seniors no longer drive and so this coach trip would definitely be enjoyed and is now available. For more information on the Number 11-11 bus call Kitchener free at 1-800-461-8687 for more information. I plan to discuss the possibilities of our Town and Country Dining Program taking part in a tour at our next executive meeting. After the delicious lunch Millie Hoggarth had prepared, Ruth Sauve of Brussels showed a video tape pro moting the story behind all the stamps that we use/used. Did you know that in 1999 there were 70 new Canadian stamps published? Ruth is a stamp collector. The Town and Country Homemakers will be selling various ice cream treats again this year at the Thresher Reunion beginning on Friday. Please come out and show your support. 7 u. 1st Blyth Scouting REGISTRATION For another fantastic year of hiking, camping, canoeing & campfires in the great outdoors, badgework, crafts, games, friends, & fun, fun, fun!!!
