Hosting a tourney Members of the Brussels Legion were proud to have the opportunity to host the Cook-Lawrey Cribbage and Euchre Tournament for the handicapped, Saturday afternoon. Started in 1972, the tournament brings together visually-impaired individuals and legion members for fun and socializing. The tournament has created a bond between the legion and the participants as well as a supporting agency for the handicapped, the Canadian Council for the Blind. Legion mem­ bers helping out were, at the back, from left: District C Chair Glen Bridge, Brussels Second Vice-President Mike Vader, Brussels President Linda Bird, Zone Commander Eric Ross, Zone Sports Commander Dave Patterson, District C Sports Bill Johnston, District G Sports, Gord Kish and District C Deputy Don Young.CT 5 Granddaughter competes in U.S. Junior Olympics CT FROM BRUSSELS Woman qualifies for ‘Millionaire’ A former Winthrop girl with fami­ ly ties to Brussels is one of several London qualifiers for the Canadian edition of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. Tracy McLennan, a 29-year-old teacher is the daughter of Jim and Ann Bosman of RR1, Winthrop. She is the granddaughter of Mary Lowe and niece of Wayne and Hope Lowe and Murray and Ruth Lowe all of Brussels. According to a report in The London Free Press of the more than 677,000 Canadians who paid $2 to try their luck at qualifying, only 3,000 made their way through five progressively harder questions before the phone lines shut down at midnight Sunday. Over 1,000 Ontarians qualified but only four will be selected in a ran­ dom draw to attend the Sept. 7 shooting in New York. Kaile Wilson Kaile Wilson, 12-year-old grand­ daughter of Case and Betty McCutcheon of Brussels, recently competed in the United States Jr. Olympics held in Buffalo, NY. She placed l3th. Kaile is the state of Colorado gold medalist in the long jump and high jump events. She then won at the southwest regional competition, which qualified her for the Jr. Olympics last month. On July 8 she competed in the USTFA National Championships in Decatur, Illinois where she placed fifth in high jump and eighth in long jump. Her grandparents were able to travel to Buffalo to watch her com­ pete. Kaile is the daughter of Rodger and Cheryl (McCutcheon) Wilson of Denver, Colorado.
