The Huron East group gets $561.661 of the projected $1,094,649 cost to amalgamate. Morris-Tumberry Twp. will also receive approximately 50 per cent of the total costs, granted $257,588 of the $513,451 application. However. Clerk-Treasurer Nancy Michie said that percentage rises when forecasted savings are deducted to determine eligible costs. The North Huron municipality will be granted slightly less than 50 per cent of the application amount of over $990,000, being given $427,500. "That is close to the figure we were anticipating," said Wingham and Blyth Clerk-Treasurer John Stewart. Central Huron was also on the lower end of the benefits, granted $469,500 when $1,168,500 was estimated as total costs for restructuring. Clerk-Treasurer Rhonda Fischer said the three townships are expecting annual savings of $198,000 with amalgamation. Receiving the highest percentage of the applied amount was Ashfield- Colborne-Wawanosh Twp. with $368,617 of the $548,489 total. The Municipalities of Bluewater and South Huron also received a portion of the $3,193,216 offered. Brussels office moves After nearly I 5 years in its current location. The Citizen's Brussels office will be moving, effective Monday, August 21. The new address, 541 Turnberry St., (formerly Murray Cardiff's constituency office) provides more convenience for customers, being closer to many of the busiest services in town such as the post office. The hours will remain the same for the time being, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Focusing on the task at hand Little Andrew Lawlor was engrossed in the job of colouring a kangaroo for his head gear when he participated in the kindergarten activities held as part of the Huron Chapel Evangelical Missionary Church, Auburn, summer Bible school program Monday. Held each morning this week from 9 to11:30 a.m., children of all ages take part in the Outback Games as they learn of the Hope of Glory, Jesus in You theme for this summer’s program. Blyth gears up for cycle event The chrome will be shining and ‘the rubber polished when motorcycle enthusiasts gather in Blyth, Aug. 18-20 for the first ever Millennium Motorcycle Event/ It will be a family weekend of fun, food, sales, show-offs and charity fundraising for motorcycle and ATV lovers. Visitors will have the opportunity to check out antique, racing, off-road and touring machines on the expansive campgrounds of Threshers’ Park in Blyth. The gates open to campers, vendors and exhibitors Friday afternoon. Saturday morning activities will kick-off at 8 a.m. with the official opening of the event, new and used parts flea market and motorcycle park and sale. A tech seminar is planned for noon in the upper hall of the arena. Sound and vibration engineer Steve Beane will answer questions and offer suggestions. The Canadian Motorcycle Charity Rallies poker run. which begins at I p.m. from The Old Mill south of Blyth, will raise monies for the Canadian Diabetes Association and Toronto Recovery Homes. Awards will be handed out after 5:30 p.m. A horsepower shoot out on the dynojet dynameter will get underway at 5:30 p.m.. The Blyth Lions will run a beer garden throughout the weekend at the Lions Park. The Olde Village Bistro will host a pork and beef roast. A Yuk Yuks’ performance is scheduled for the upper hall at IO p.m. with three well-known Canadian comedians. Sunday's events will rev up with a pancake breakfast and include a tech seminar, dynameter shootout and a last chance to peruse the wares. Planned to coincide with the ninth Annual Walton TransCan Motocross races, a courtesy shuttle bus will run between Blyth and Walton throughout the weekend to allow visitors to take in both events. The first shuttle will head out Saturday morning at 9 a.m. For more information on the event call 519-523-9532. Municipalities begin hiring Municipalities are beginning to get staff hired as the amalgamation date draws nearer. For the Municipality of Central Huron, Richard Harding has been hired as the clerk/deputy treasurer; Hullett Twp. clerk-treasurer Rhonda Fischer, treasurer/deputy clerk; Steve Campbell, facilities manager; Steve Gibbings, utilities manager; Tom Sinclair, road superintendent and Andy DePutter as protective services officer. Motocross races begin With the roar of thunder, dirt flying and motorcycles flying through the air, the TransCan Grand National Championships, on the Lee farm near Walton, promises to be more exciting and packed with more thrills than ever before. Billed as Canada’s largest outdoor motocross event, the racing will take place from Aug. 17-20. Unique to the moto circuit, the Walton championship is held on a natural, outdoor track, resulting in varying and challenging environments depending on weather conditions. Aside from the actual racing there will be an abundance of activities for riders and spectators. Racers can sign-up for the weekend-long scavenger hunt when they register Wednesday. The Brussels Optimists will provide a wide selection of foods for the hungry. The Iron City beer tent will provide refreshments for non-racers. There will be an Iron City Kiddie Land, a supervised play area for pre­ schoolers. Thursday at 6 p.m., there will be a tug-of-war between the ladies and 80’s racers. A social time for the lady racers and their families.will follow. Kris Garwasiuk will host a free ride and jump demonstration at the peewee track, Friday at 2 p.m. The 6 p.m. tug-of-war will go between the beginner and junior racers and tire races will be held an hour later. At 8 p.m., a BMX slowest race to the finish could change the pace of the evening, then a fashion show will hit the runway at 9 p.m. The Davies family will entertain at 10 p.m. Honda will open a mini ride centre Saturday. The intermediates and pros will tug the rope and trophies will be awarded in four of the seven classes. Musical group. Chick will entertain in the evening. An auction to raise money for the Motorcycle Racers' Foundation will be held on Sunday, immediately following the final Pro 250 moto.
