The Blyth Public School annual
Walk-a-Thon is being planned for
Wednesday, June 21. This walk is
organized by the school council and
certainly was enjoyed by all last year.
Money ^raised will go towards
completing the fundraising for the
computer lease. Fran Cook is the

Students and staff will begin the
walk shortly after 9 a.m.

returned with collections prior to the
day of the walk-a-thon.
Charitable donations of over $10
will be receipted through the
Foundation for Enriching Education.
Students will be expected to have at
least a $3 pledge to participate in the
Walk-a-thon.
The School Council also applied
for funding from the Ideal Supply
Company for the yard enhancement
project and received a grant of $250.
It is hoped that some benches for
seating may be added throughout the

Enriching Education.

held on the last day of school,
Thursday, June 29. The Primary

Erlene Caldwell, second vice-president; Vai Pethick, first vice-president; Janice Henry, presi
dent; Mildred Ament, past president. Next row: Kay Hesselwood, executive; Brenda Finlayson,
secretary; Bernice Pierce, Sgt.-at-Arms. Front: Edythe Giousher, executive; Sandra Elliott,
executive; Connie Shiell, executive. Absent: Deb Stryker, treasurer/sports.
This time they hosted a hamburger
barbecue at Scrimgeour’s Store. The
money raised was to go towards the
“Sunshine Group.” The “Sunshine
Bear” was escorted throughout the
town in a red fire truck, compliments
of Grant Sparling. They raised
$1,028 plus the Lions are donated
$500, all to sponsor a special child
to go to camp for a week.
Unfortunately, it costs $3,500 to be
able to do this for one person. With
the poor turnout for the recent event
last week, it definitely is a let down
for those who are actively involved
with the Lions Club. Are we going to
let the Lions Club down as the
Optimists, that now no longer exist
due to lack of support and interest?

Special congratulations goes out to
Stewart and Mildred Ament, who
celebrated their 52nd anniversary on
June 5.
After reading the letter to the edi
tor last week concerning the poor
turnout for the Lion’s Pork Chop
Barbecue, I feel it is time to give
credit where credit is due. Not only
did the Lions Club host a horse shoe
tournament followed by the barbe
cue, they had been quite busy a few
weeks ago.
