Huron East WI branches gather in Walton Walton Women’s Institute hosted the Huron East District Women’s Institute’s 97th annual meeting on Tuesday, May 9 in the Walton Hall. With the theme New Beginnings the day began with 46 ladies signing the guest book. The morning exer­ cises were followed by Walton’s President Ruth Axtmann welcoming everyone. The PRO and Tweedsmuir .reports were given by Marjory Humphries. Beth Ross of the Goderich Huron County Library was guest speaker. The afternoon session began with the Hymn of all Nations. At the piano was Margaret Mclnroy. Coins for Friendship were present­ ed from each branch for the roll call. Eight branches were represented from Brussels, Bluevale, Fordwich, Gorrie, Howick, Lakelet, Molesworth and Walton. Offices were installed for the com­ ing year. In new business it was noted that delegates are required for the county rally on Monday, Oct. 2 in Huron South. The place is to be announced later. The district directors’ meeting is to be held at the home of Leona McDonald with a potluck luncheon on Sept. 11. Courtesy remarks were given by Gorrie Institute. Members are also invited to Gorrie for next year’s meeting. Majestic member take mystery tour On Wednesday morning, May 10 17 members of the Majestic Women's Institute met at the Brussels Library to go on a Mystery Tour. The first stop was at the Craft Store in Winthrop which everyone enjoyed. They then went to the Seaforth Hospital board room for a short meeting. It was too cold and wet to use the gazebo as planned. Arrangements were made to sell quilt tickets at the Lions Club elimi­ nation draw. The delegate to the area conven­ tion in Maryhill on October 25 and 26 will be Lucy Hesse and alternate will be Peggy Keffer. The County Rally will be held in Huron South on Oct. 2. A report of the district annual held in Walton was given by Edna McLellan and Peggy Keffer. After din­ ner they met a food consultant at Knechtel’s Food Store who explained the value of certain foods - stressing mostly a heart healthy food. This concluded an enjoyable and informative tour arranged by Ruth Bauer and Marie McTaggart.
