Madill concert, jazz/pop bands bring home gold, silver
The Madill bands performed on

Grove, Illinois, just outside of
Chicago.
According to conductor Vicki
Gerth, the concert band opened the
festival at 7:20 a.m. Songs were

the group after their performance to

The pop/rock ensemble competed
after with the same marking and

Schaumburg, Illinois to the
Medieval Times facility for the
awards ceremony where they
received their trophies.
“The students played exceptional-
.Jy well, and throughout the trip
behaved in a respectful and dignified
manner giving credit to themselves,
their school and community,” said
Gerth. “We are all very proud of
them.”
Financial support for the trip came
through fundraising. Assisting Gerth
with the chaperoning duties were
Mr. Matthews, Mr. Schedler and
Mrs. Pettigrew.

There was a great turnout for
Brussels Legion’s Friday night sup

always draws hungry patrons to the
Branch. This week’s tasty treat will
be chicken.
Thanks to Lawrence Machan and
Glenn Bridge for the nice repair job
on the brick pillar outside the front
door. The spring cleaning had the
Branch looking its best for the
Ladies Auxiliary Zone Convention,
Sunday. Members from all the
Branches across the Zone came to
enjoy a sandwich lunch, a cenotaph
service, meetings and a lasagna din
ner.
The Branch is going to be open
Sunday, May 28 at l p.m. for a spe
cial day. A ceremony from Ottawa to
commemorate the new Tomb of the
Unknown Soldier is being broadcast
on TV. All members of the Branch
and public may come in and watch

There has never been a national
war memorial in Canada, but there
has been one in France. It was felt
that there should be one in Canada
and a new memorial in Ottawa has
been built. This program will cele

should be given the opportunity to

Tulip orders and silent auction
