Former Brussels Bull Owen Sound’s head scout By Bonnie Gropp Citizen staff A familiar face at the Brussels arena, both on the ice and behind the bench has taken on the position of head scout for the Owen Sound Junior B hockey squad. Steve Coulter, named officially just over a week ago, brings to the position an impressive on-ice and administrative background. Coming up through the minor hockey ranks, he was a solid force in goal for the Brussels Bulls Junior team begin­ ning in the late 1970s. After that he served as the team’s Lung Association hosts annual golf tournament On Saturday, June 3 the Fifth Annual Lung Association Golf Tournament sponsored by Horizon Pro Health and Bemy Nymeyer of RBC Dominion Securities will get the 2000 golf season off to a great start at the Mitchell Golf Club. Last year this 18 hole Texas Scramble tournament, popular with both male and female golfers, was a complete sell-out! Proceeds from the tournament support the many health initiatives of The Lung Association, such as Breathe Easy and the new Asthma Action Program, as well vital med­ ical research. Prizes for this year’s tournament include one night getaways for two to Toronto, London and Lake Huron, which are inputted into a computer database to be followed through the season. At the May 1 meeting of Grey Township Council, the tender from A. G. Hayter of Parkhill for the Diegel and Whitfield municipal drains was accepted. Seven tenders had been received for each drain with the Hayter tender of $29,243.10 for the Deigel Drain and $59,603.82 for the Whitfield Drain being the lowest for each drain. The 2000 budget for the township with projected expenditures of $1,447,125 was approved. Major projects for the year include the road reconstruction of Cone. 17 from Lots 3-10 ($120,000), paving of Cone. 3- 4 from County Rd. 19 to the Grey/Elma boundary ($160,000), and if the budget permits, the paving of Cone. 11-12 from Lots 6 to lot 13 ($140,000). Council increased the local munic­ ipal tax rate by three per cent which generates an additional $7,500 in taxes. The increase in the local tax rate along with the two per cent increase in the county rate results in an overall tax rate increase of 1.6 per cent or approximately $20 per $100,000 assessment.
