Stolen vehicle found in Seaforth On March 9 at approximately 3 a.m. an officer on patrol in the Town of Seaforth came across a stolen vehicle. The I998 Ford Ranger pick-up truck was sitting at the rear of Seaforth Food Market just off the main street. It had been reported stolen from Toronto earlier that day. Later that morning a man was found sleeping in the front veranda of a home a short distance from the stolen truck. Found to be the person responsible for the truck theft he was arrested and returned to Toronto where he was found to be mentally unstable. He has been admitted to a hospital in Toronto for assessment. Court allows . school closures In a court-decision handed down March 8, the Avon Maitland Dis­ trict School Board has been given the go ahead to proceed with school closure plans for the Seaforth facil­ ities. A group of Seaforth school sup­ porters had sought a prohibition order to stop the board from closing Seaforth District High School and Seaforth Public School until a full judicial review could be held in May. In the judge’s ruling he stated that in spite of a strong case pre­ sented by the school supporters, “they had not proven they would suffer irreparable harm between now and May 19.” The judge also made allowances for the board to send notices to teaching staff as per the collective agreement. “These notices could later be withdrawn if the closure decision was quashed by the Divi­ sional Court,” said Judge Heeney. By preventing the sending of notices, the board would not be able to close the schools this year if the decision is upheld. Director of Education Lome Rachlis said, “This ruling is in the best interest of students and teach­ ers across the district, and is, I believe both reasonable and logical. It allows us to provide our students the fullest opportunity to select their courses and schools for next year, and allows us to honour our contractual obligations to our teachers and support staff.” In a release, the school support­ ers asked trustees to reconsider the closure motion.
