Council approves zoning change Blyth council approved a zoning amendment at the March 6 meeting for applicant Albert Wasson. Wasson requested a change for Part Park Lot 17, RP 171 and part Lot 2, Cone. 10 from Highway Commercial to Highway Commer cial-Special Zone to allow the establishment of a second residence on the property in the existing com mercial business. The lots currently have a detached residence, but Wasson was interested in creating a resi dence in the building previously used as a restaurant. An eating establishment is to be re-estab lished in the building as well. County planner Cindy Fisher was on hand to discuss the matter. Council agreed that the property should remain commercial and that it cannot be used as a residence only. Wording to that effect was included in a bylaw attachment and the zoning amendment was passed. (Vicky Bremner photo) Blyth council briefs An application for a minor vari ance, submitted by L&Y Young- blut Enterprises, for a Victoria Street property was discussed prior to the March 6 session of Blyth council. The variance would reduce the side yard requirement from three metres to 2.5 metres on the west side for Plan 168, Lot 171. It was discovered the home had been built one foot too close to the west boundary. In another property matter, coun cil had no objection to a severance application or Plan 170, Part Lot 12, and Lot 13, Block D, subject to approval for a minor variance if needed. *** Approval was given for Clerk- Treasurer John Stewart to attend the Association of Municipal Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario election workshop, April 4, in Lon don. Council will pay the $192.60 registration fee. *** Council endorsed a resolution from Pickering, asking the federal and provincial governments to give utmost priority to the protection of children from sexual exploitation. A resolution from South Glen garry Twp. requesting adequate funding for environmental prob lems was endorsed. *** Council endorsed the position of J. Hetherington and C. Strickland with respect to Huron County ambulance services. *** Council was in agreement with the task force of clerks formed to review and investigate and recom mend accordingly on the Provincial Offences Act transfer program on behalf of all the municipalities of Huron County.*** Authorization was given for the Ontario Clean Water Agency to repair the clarifier at the sewage treatment plant. The village will be eligible for a $1,000 capital expen ditures grant for the work which is estimated to cost $3,000.*** In response to a question from the gallery, Stewart said the first day of bag tags went well. However, he said, there had been a few complaints from people about using the tags and some garbage that was not picked up because it was not tagged. The process also went well at the dump site with some people just paying a tipping fee rather than using tags. When asked if there would be a decrease in taxes because of rev enue from the landfill site, Stewart said he was unsure as the county requisition had been increased by two per cent.*** With the arrival of warm temper- Continued on page 19 Our mistake The mistake under the picture of he new Blyth Fire Department tanker can be blamed on bad hear ing.
