UCW speaks about
matters of the heart
Monday afternoon, Feb. 21 the
Londesboro UCW concerned the
themselves with matters of the
heart.
The worship service centred
around the scripture passage I
Corinthians 13. Several reflective
readings and hymns gave
reassurance of God’s love and the
peace and fulfillment that comes
when trusting in that love. The
readings were also reminders to
pass on love to others.
Karen Atkinson of Auburn who
leads the Healthy Hearts Clinic in
Goderich was the guest speaker.
She gave a most interesting and
informative presentation on the
heart. The discussion touched on
risk factors for heart problems,
improvements in lifestyle and
different medical terms and heart
procedures.
Following an explanation of the
clinic and its operation she led the
group in some simple exercises for
healthy hearts.
During the Business meeting it
was decided to donate several of
the oldest tables to Hullett Central
School. A day of work and
fellowship has been set for March
13. The World Day of Prayer
service on Friday, March 3 will
begin with dessert at l :30 p.m.
Cowan talks of deregulation
A good number of interested
people joined the Happy Gang
Seniors at the Londesboro Hall last
Wednesday to hear about the
upcoming changes in Ontario
Hydro services.
Ted Cowan, farm policy
researcher from the Ontario
Federation of Agriculture said that
as of Nov. I, deregulation of hydro
services will be in place. He
explained these changes and what
they will mean to Ontario residents.

supplier and rural properties can
expect to see a large increase in
price unless distribution costs
continue to be averaged out
between rural, industrial and town

Although in the short term there
may be unpredictability and

60 euchre players
The Londesboro Women’s
Institute held its annual Card
Calvacade on Valentine’s Day.
There were I5 tables of euchre
players and approximately $450
was raised for the Clinton Public
Hospital.
Pink card winners were: high,
Hazel Reid; second, Josephine
MacGregor; third, Lillian Appleby;
low, Kay Konarski. Irene Heipel,
Dorothy Carter, Edythe Beacom
has taken part in all hearings and
reviews of the OEB on behalf of
rural residents.
Also present to answer concerns
was Paul Nairn, OFA field
representative for Huron/Perth.
During the business meeting the
seniors group decided to compose a
letter for concerned rural residents
to forward to politicians’ offices in
hopes of drawing attention to the
rural aspects of this issue.

John Vanden Elzen; second, Lloyd

score was a tie between John

and Lois Elliott.
Hoggarts, Salverdas
greet at United Church
Greeting churchgoers at
Londesboro United Church this
past Supday were John and Jane
Hoggart. Ed and Mary Salverda
were the ushers.
During the children’s time, the
puppet, Charlie Horse, made an
appearance. Rev. Ross wanted the
children to recognize that just as
the puppet needs someone to be its
voice and look after it, God looks
after His children.
The message was titled You
Need Me and the relevant scripture
readings were Hosea 2: 14-20 and 2
Corinthians 3: 1-6. The relationship
of God with His followers is a two-
way commitment. Just as
Christians need God’s love in their
life, God needs His followers to
spread that love to the world.
The marriage of Kevin Johns and
Sandra Verwey was celebrated in
this church Saturday evening, Feb.
26.
The World Day of Prayer service
will be held March 3. Dessert will
be served at 1:30 p.m. followed by
the service at 2 p.m.
Muffins, juice and coffee will be
served in the narthex next Sunday
at 10:40 a.m.

Knechtel store tapes the library
recently purchased the Silver Birch
and Red maple book collections.
These books will be used in the
reading program for the junior
division and then be circulated
through the library. Helping out by
saving these tapes seems an easy
thing for any to do. Tapes can be
turned in at the school office.
Report cards go home again on
March 6 and March break will
begin with school dismissal on
March 10.
A science in motion club has
been started with the help of two
parent volunteers. During lunch
hour on Fridays, selected students
are making battery operated cars
with the assistance of Carl Farr of
Auburn and Sam Dougherty of
Londesboro. It is an opportunity for
students to display extra creativity
in the field of science.
