Anniversary tulips
celebrate bond
between countries
It was a great find for the Huronlea Auxiliary when several quilting squares were discovered.
The Auxiliary is putting together the quilt and will raffle it off to raise funds for the residents’
council. Involved in the project are, from left: Audrey Cardiff, Kathy Bridge, Edna McLellan,
Viola Kirkby, Leona Armstrong and Elsie Smith. Little Samantha Thyssen came along with
grandma Kathy for the outing. The auxiliary invited others to help with the quilt or attend
their regular meetings on the third Monday of the month at 10 a.m. at Huronlea.

Did you know that the Legion
was formed in 1926 to help young
Canadians return to civilian life
after WWI and maintain an effort
to ensure they receive the support
they needed? There are half a
million members in 1,600
branches. The Legion contributes
$30 million each year through
charitable donations, seniors
housing and health, youth sports
and education programs.
We welcome you to join in the
Royal Canadian Legion’s 75th
Anniversary Celebrations by
purchasing Legion tulip bulbs. The
tulip is the symbol of a special
bond between the Netherlands and
Canada.
The Canadian tulip tradition
started with an annual gift of bulbs
from the people of The Netherlands
to say thank you to Canadians who
liberated Holland during WWII.
Each year the Dutch Royal family
sends a gift of tulips that grace.
Canada’s capital each spring.
Tulips are available by
contacting the Legion at 887-6562
or myself at 887-6570. They are
priced at 10 for $6 or 100 for $55
and are available in Legion Gold,
Legion Crimson and Legion
Brilliant.
The general meeting for all
members is Monday, Feb. 28 at 8
p.m.
