Clarkes welcome new baby Best wishes sent to principal On behalf of the school and community I’d like to send ‘get well soon’ wishes to Alice McDowell who will be off for a time due to her emergency operation. Things just aren’t the same at the school without her. The kindergarten class worked with the letter O this week and they made a paper octopus. They learned that an octopus will squirt a black liquid into the water so that he can hide. They also made some Outstanding Olive sandwiches ... they cut an O in the bread using a donut cutter, then they spread on cream cheese and topped it with olive slices. The Grade l/2s wanted everyone to know that this past week they made incredibly, beautiful ice sculptures. There were fancy shaped jello moulds, margarine tubs, ice cream pails, you name it they filled it with coloured water. The filled moulds were then put outside to freeze In the morning Mrs. Bennett took a pail of hot water and she dipped each container in it to take the ice from the mould. The ice moulds were taken to the driveway in sleds and then the ice sculptures were built. They poured water over them to make them sparkle in the sunlight. The Grade 3s are using calendar activities locating dates using timelines. In gym the students did some aerobic dancing for their exercise activities. JvumlcA Congratulations to Vai and Jack Clarke who had the most wonderful valentine’s gift of all, a baby boy. Bom to the couple that evening was Daniel Alexander Gillies-Clarke. How many readers have been seeing a lot of possums this year? We found one out in the bam in the hayloft about two months ago. My son Geoff was up in the straw loft throwing down straw when he said he saw a huge rat. A week later or so my partner Jim, was also throwing down straw and when he came down to spread it the cows were chasing this funny looking creature. Jim grabbed a gunny sack and opened it up and the creature came out of the pen into the aisle and into the sack. If you haven’t seen a possum they are kind of white/gray with a long nose, black ears like a guinea pig and sharp teeth that shows if you got too close. Their tails are long and bare like a rat’s. They do have cute little black feet though, which is about all that is cute on them. Jim put it into a big bird cage he 176 Main St. N. Listowel 291-3661 brought home from the dump earlier this summer and fed it cat food and gave it water and Opi seemed quite content. Reading up on them I learned that they are the only marsupials in North America (they have pouches). Well Opi was happy for about a week and then one day we came out to do chores and Opi was gone. Neighbours said they saw a possum around their place. Maybe it was Opi, I don’t know. But a few days Weys greet at Duff’s service Campbell and Edith Wey were greeters at Duff s United Church on Feb. 20. John Patterson was guest speaker for the service. Margaret Hern from Woodham will take the service for the next . two Sundays. Mr. Patterson joined the choir in singing a hymn He Came Singing Love. Support minor sports Attend a game ago we found Opi in our bam up on the bird cage eating cat food with the cats. The cats and the sheep all seemed quite comfortable with it there. I noted that the end of its tail was frozen (it was all red/purple). We kind of looked forward to having him around. But yesterday we found him dead on the road. I could tell it was him by the end of its tail. If anyone has any stories about possums or any other animal stories that you would like to share, let me krow. , He announced that Phyllis Mitchell was now in London hospital, after breaking her knee on Saturday. She is wished a speedy recovery. The sermon was Be Free. Mr. Patterson retold the story of the paralyzed man that was lowered through the roof to get healed.
