Bride elect showered
On Wednesday, Feb. 9 a shower
was held at the home of Betsey
Verwey in honour of her
granddaughter, Sandra Verwey
who will shortly be wed. Two
enjoyable contests were given by
Betty Archambault. Ethel Ball and
Elva Armstrong were the lucky
winners.
A poetic address was read to-the
bride-to-be by Ethel. A good many
worthwhile gifts were presented.
Second family loses home to fire
What’s going on in Auburn?
Another house is completely
burned and all furnishings. Nothing
could be saved. This is the home of
Donald and Erma Cartwright and
happened on Thursday. It was also
on the Main Street.
The Silver Tops meet at the hall
on Wednesday, Feb. 16 for dinner.
The bride-to-be will be able to use
these in her new home in the
Hensall district.
Sandra thanked everyone for hei
lovely gifts. Lunch was then served
by the hostess and the Walkerburn
Club.

The WI is sponsoring a dessert
euchre afternoon on Feb. 17 at 1:30
p.m. This will be at the Community
Hail and everyone, man or woman
is welcome. The price will be $3 at
the door and tickets will also be
sold for draws.
At Knox United the church
service for Sunday, Feb. 20 will
begin at 1 1 a.m. The annual
congregational meeting will follow.
Dinner will also be served. Note
the change in time.
Musical prelude with Nancy
Park, organist, welcomed everyone
to the service on Feb. 13.
Rev. Paul Ross led the invitation
to worship.
The children came to the front
and a real estate sheet was shown.
People may own things but God
still made everything, he said.
Scripture was from Kings 1-14.
In this the Lord will strike Israel
and scatter it away. Then from
Luke 12 was the parable of the rich
man who decided to now eat, drink
and be happy but to not consider
others.
Rev. Ross’s sermon was on The
Eagle and the Chickens teaching
that God takes care of large and
small.
Offering was received and
presented by Joyce Bean and son
Michael.
Joyce Bean and family greeted at
the door and presented bulletins in
the church for this service.

Ken Grigg, president of the Auburn Lions Club presents a
cheque to Steve Freeman who lost his home to fire. The
Lions hosted a pancake breakfast to help the family
rebuild. The family was given $1,700 which included open
donations of $906 and a donation from the Lions of $200.
The breakfast profit was $594. The club had also given
them an earlier donation in the amount of $100. A benefit
breakfast will be held in March for the Cartwright family
