United Way selects leaders Challenge: Eating Well Bruce Shaw, chair of Huron United Way board of directors announced the appointment of a new executive director and the selection of three leaders for the 2003 campaign year. Melodie Northey, appointed as executive director brings a wealth of experience in the not for profit, business and medical fields to the position. (Bonnie Gropp photo) IProduction manager finds unexpected duties fun By Bonnie Gropp Citizen editor They sure didn’t teach this in theatre school. And Rick Banville certainly didn’t learn it living in Toronto either. As a production manager for Blyth Festival this season, it is Banville’s responsibility to see that everything about a show he’s working on runs smoothly, from sound and lighting to getting the actors cued. What came as a little bit of a surprise this year was some of the actors he would be working with. For Bamboozled: He Won’t Come In From The Barn. Part II. Banville is responsible for getting star Mary Kate, her understudy Ashley and Willie to work on time. That the trio is comprised of a pair of piglets and a calf has made the job interesting for a city boy. “This is definitely a first for me. I had no idea when 1 took the job what would be required, though there was an inkling. Let’s say there were people who warned me, but I didn’t realize to what extent I would be involved with the animals.” So tar. Banville has found the new experience relatively easy, and credits the many people who have helped him, particularly Murray Siertscma who houses the ani mals. Banville does, however admit his stars have a tendency to act the prima donna. “The biggest job is to get them on stage. They hate to go to work and love to go home.” business leader, has, in addition to being general campaign chair, taken on the added challenge of heading the corporate campaign for 2003. “Our goal is to have 2003 caring workers in Huron County pledge the cost of ‘a coffee (or two) a week’ through payroll deduction at their place of employment,” reports Evans. “I believe this is an excellent and efficient way of sharing our resources, to help care for our family members, friends, and neighbours who need social services in our county.” Larry Langan has accepted two new titles as he steps into the vice chair position of the directors and will co-ordinate the 2003 education portion of the campaign. As director of education for the Huron Perth Catholic School board, Langan knows all too well the needs of youth in Huron County. “I fully endorse the principles of the United Way to provide funding for much-needed programs of the member agencies of the Huron United Way. I will be asking the principals, teachers, and support staff of the Huron Perth Catholic School Board to step up to the plate and pledge their support of the United Way Campaign” said Langan. “The challenge will also be extended to the Avon-Maitland Public School Board of Education employees to match or exceed our endeavours.” Steve Northey will co-ordinate this year’s community appeal. The official kick-off will be held Sept. 26 at a Huron County Harvest Poor- Boy Luncheon held at and in conjunction with a Huron United Way member agency, Midwestern Adult Day Centre, 317 Huron Rd., Clinton. “By giving as little as the cost of a cup of coffee a week, you can make a tremendous difference in the lives of nearly 20,000 people (one in three people) of Huron County who use the services provided by the Huron United Way 13 member agencies,” said Northey. “We ask that you take part in community events benefitting these agencies and respond generously to the request for support arriving in your mail this fall.” LIST OF ELECTORS FOR MUNICIPALITY OF HURON EAST 2003 Clerk’s Notice of First Posting of Preliminary List Preliminary List, 2003 of the Municipality of Huron East County of Huron NOTICE is hereby given that the Voter’s List prepared as required by the Municipal Election Act will be available from Tuesday, September 2nd, 2003 for inspection at the Municipal Office, Seaforth, and Public Libraries in Seaforth and Brussels.
