Hundreds watch races PEOPLE AROUND
WALTON
The roar of motocross was the
news of Walton and the only place to
be this past weekend. Hundreds of
riders and their families came to
camp from Tuesday on.
The racing started for the amateur
program on Thursday morning and
finished up on Saturday.
The Grand National race to finish
the professional series was on
Sunday when the best pro riders put
on a great race for the thousands of
spectators. It was good weather for
the week and organizers Matt, Chris
and Judy Lee did a great job.
Benefitting financially are many
area groups such as Brussels Minor
Hockey which provided flaggers forFROM WALTON racing and took on the daunting task
of garbage detail. They did an
WLS Shining Stars class
outstanding job as on Monday
morning looking across the
campfields, very little refuse was to
be seen.
The Walton Area Sports Club
staffs the entrance gates from
Tuesday until Sunday with help
from many community members
and the Walton-based ball teams.
Blyth Minor Hockey benefits by
supplying parking personnel on
Saturday and Sunday.

studies moon and stars
The Walton Little School Shining
Stars class has travelled ahead from
the age of the dinosaurs and is
leaping right into night and day.
They will be learning about the sun
and the moon, shadows and stars.
The class is working on creating
alphabet creatures and ABC books.
The Acorns are busy reading
Robert Munsch books. They made
cookies after reading Mmm cookies.
They had their own show-and-tell
day after reading Show and Tell and
did face painting after reading
Purple, Green and Yellow.
They have written letters to Mr.
Munsch, telling him how much they
love his books.
Their reading goal is to read 500
books as a class this month and then
celebrate with a popcorn and movie

Cooked over an open fire Friday evening was the only way
to go and the selection of meats prepared by Jim Thompson
for attendees at the Walton national motocross races was
sure to tempt the palate. His daughter, Cheryl Thompson of

Challenge: Conflicting schedules leave no time
to enjoy meals together as a family
Solution: Studies show that eating family meals together is associated with
healthy eating patterns, such as eating more fruits and vegetables, more fibre and
less fat Eating together also helps develop healthy food habits in children
particularly when parents are good role models. While it’s hard to make family
meals happen all the time — the ideas below will help your family eat well together
as often as possible
• Be flexible - Try to schedule activities so you have some time everyday to eat
together You might have to be more flexible with your main meal and vary it
according to daily activities For example, dinner might be at 5:00 p.m one night
and 7:00 p m. another night
• Make nutritious snacks available - Not everyone can wait for the family meal.
Healthy snacks can contribute to daily nutrient intakes. Prepare raw vegetables or
fruit plates ahead of time and keep in the fridge for after school or after work
snacks. Keep snacks in the car or in your bag to avoid the vending machines and
fast food stops Handy snacks include trail mix made with dry cereal, nuts, and
dried fruit, whole-grain or graham crackers; yogurt and cheese; individual
containers of fruit; water bottles and juice boxes
• Keep track of winning meals Mark up your cookbooks with comments like,
"too much work ’ or “tastes amazing!" or any additions/substitutions that worked for
a recipe Make notes on every recipe you try so you know what you and your
family’s reaction to it was
