WI see special play
With hopes that the rain would
soon cease, 47 members from the
District of Huron East, Huron West
and Perth North Women’s Institutes
boarded a coach and headed off for a
day in Port Hope and a theatre
presentation, Aug. 6.
After enjoying supper in Port
Hope, the women attended For
Home and Country, at the 4th Line
Theatre on the Winslow Farm at
Millbrook, an outdoor produc
tion.
According to Huron East
members Isabelle Hislop and
Margaret McMahon, to say the play
was superb would be an
understatement. “The whole
performance was most outstanding.

Writer Leanna Brodie used Linda
Ambrose’s book For Home and
Country as the historical authority
for the play. It was directed by
Robert Winslow and all the songs
and poems used were written for and
by women’s Institute members, with
few exceptions.
The play was first produced in
2002 to celebrate the 100th
anniversary of the East Durham
District WI and explores the nature
of community and belonging while
uncovering the story of the WI.

State of Blake (the band formerly

release of their next CD on Aug. 14
at the El Mocambo in Toronto and
on Aug. 16 and 17 at the National
Motocross Competitions in Walton.

for use in the upcoming DVD and

was entirely self-produced by the
band and will be available in stores

Festival actor releases CD
Dan Chameroy, appearing this
season at the Stratford Festival as
Gaston Lachailles in Gigi, has
recorded a CD of his favourite
musical tunes, including the title
song from Gigi.

favourite tunes from Broadway
shows, including Unusual Way
(Nine), I’ve Grown Accustomed to

volunteers for annual Run
The Terry Fox Foundation is
seeking energetic and enthusiastic
individuals to ensure the
continuation of Terry’s success.
Each year thousands of volunteers
organize Terry Fox events in Canada
and around the world.
Now it its 23rd year, the annual
Terry Fox Run is held every
September and is taking place this
year on Sept. 14.
The run is a non-competitive
event where people come together
as individuals, families, or groups to
raise money in Terry’s name; it is a
day of celebrating his legacy and
helping to keep his dream of a cure
for cancer alive.
The volunteer position of a Terry
Fox Run organizer requires a person
who has strong leadership skills, has
the ability to delegate, and enjoys

The El Mocambo - famed rock
club infamous for its role in the
careers of The Rolling Stones, U2
and many others, will be hosting the
kickoff release party. The band has
arranged for buses for hometown
fans from Goderich and Wingham
and will be supported in part by

Chameroy also performs songs
from Camelot, and Gigi, two
musicals from his Stratford Festival

“The songs on the CD have been
part of my journey as a performer
from the beginning of my career to
today,” said Chameroy. “I have been
lucky enough to perform many of
these classic songs on the stage, and
have combined these with other
children and their parents who dance
and fiddle. The Lighthouse Squares,
Amandalyn, the Hanover Lady
Barbershoppers and more will also
perform.
Tickets for Toe Tappin’ Tunes are
$10 per person and are available in
advance from the Bruce County
Museum and Archives located at 33
Victoria St. N. in Southampton, from
all Genealogical Society members

The organizer’s responsibilities
include adhering to the Foundation’s
policies, accurately accounting for
monies, managing an inventory of
merchandise, and ensuring the run
site is properly organized and staffed
to make participation an enjoyable
and rewarding experience. The time
commitment can be anywhere from
two to four hours a week in the
months leading up to the run.
