St, Paul’s nips Midget Girls
U-6 Ils, Ills beat parents
It was an exciting night and a great
finish to the season when the
Brussels U-6 II squad took on the U-
6 III team.
Brussels Ill’s Wyatt Machan
started off the game with a netter to
be followed up by Lexi Smith
scoring back-to-back goals. Daniel
Lichty put one in early in the second
half with Smith ending the game
with a hattrick in the 5-1 win.
Mathew Terpstra made some great
saves in net, holding Brussels II off
the board in the second half.
The Brussels II runners, Owen
Hamilton, Dalen Martin, Jenna
Thompson, and Conner Bridge
chased the ball and made good
attempts at keeping the ball in the
Brussels III end. Shaelynn Cloakey
and Johanna Blake did super jobs in
nei and Alexandra Martin and
Rachel Hastings worked hard to get
the ball. Dalton Hamilton, Laura
Souch, Eric Van Nes and Kai
Heimstra challenged their
Midgets trounce Minto
The North Perth Midgets took
Minto by storm last Monday night
scoring 23 times to their single
marker.
Scoring for the Outlaws were
Jason Hamilton, four, Adam
MacDonald, three, Cory Chapman,
three, Matt Tell, three. Drew
Campbell, two, Justin Erb, two,
Brad DeBlock, two, Tony DeBlock,
Xavier O’Krafka, Jordan Doig and
Brandy McKee.
Assisting the goals were Mitch
Fleet, three, O’Krafka, three, Ashton
Nichol, two, Doig, two. Hamilton,
two, MacDonald, two, DeBlock, B.
DeBlock. Erb, Justin Smith and
goalie Liam Madge.
Ted Forbes scored Minto’s lone
goal halfway through the third
period.
Elora came to Listowel to play the
Outlaws on Thursday night with a
.educed squad. Elora allowed the
opponents.
The two teams ended their season
with a fun match against their
parents. Though the parents showed
great enthusiasm, Brussels II coach
Tammy Hamilton said nothing could
match the excitement of the
children.
Scoring for the children in the 4-1
win were Heimstra (two), Machan
and Curtis Terpstra when he got the
ball past his father, Chuck, in net.
Bruce Johnston scored the lone
goal for the parents.
The evening finished with cool
treats for the soccer players and
thanks to Hamilton and Brussels III
coach Brent Kipfer for their patience
and hard work.
Other Brussels III players
included Jacob and Riley
Holthuysen, Joel and Micha Kipfer,
Jamie Perrault, Delayna Smith,
Jasmine Vaderi, Mitchell and
Gregory Ward, Daniel Fritz and
Tyler Vandermier.
North Perth Midgets to score 16
goals.
Goalie Madge only fished the
ball out of the back of the net four
times.
Scoring five times for the Outlaws
was MacDonald. B. DeBlock got a
hattrick. Tell scored twice and those
with single markers included Erb,
Tyler DeVos, David Fitzgerald,
Doig, Smith and Hamilton. Goals
were assisted by Tell, O’Krafka,
DeVos, Smith, T. DeBlock, B.
DeBlock, Nichol and Chapman.
The final game of the season was
played in Kurtzville on Aug. 12 at 9.
The team will travel to Guelph for
Provincials on Aug. 15. The first
game will be against Gloucester II at
3 p.m.
The Brussels Midgets were on the
road playing St. Paul’s on July 28
and Holmesville on July 30.
Lisa Black started on the mound
for Brussels with three strikeouts
and allowed nine runs and nine hits
and three errors. Lesley Pepper
came in to relieve and finished the
game with 10 strikeouts. She
allowed no runs to cross the plate.
Brussels scored one run in the
second on a long fly by Black who
advanced to score on hits by
Kathrine Cameron and Heather
Little.
Brussels would add another two
runs in the fourth on hits by Lacey
McCall, Catrina Josling and Black.
Brussels rallied again in the fifth
to score another three runs. Candice
Usborne ousts PeeWees
Having finished the regular season
in third place in a division of nine
teams the Londesborough PeeWee
boys began the playoffs Aug. 4
against Usborne.
After holding the visitors off the
board in the first, Londesborough
tacked up two.
However, Usborne was not to be
held scoreless, plating one in the
second and two in the third before
Londesborough had a great bottom
of the inning with five runs.
The home team could not hold
their 7-3 lead, giving up three runs in
the fourth, six in the fifth and two in
the sixth while unable to answer in
their own at-bats.
Usborne took the contest with a
14-7 win.
Lee Watkins pitched the first to
third innings then returned for the
fifth and sixth, striking out 11.
Anthony Wilts took to the mound in
the fourth, earning two strike-outs.
The teams met for a rematch Aug.
6 with Londesborough travelling to
Wheeler sponsors
bowling tourney
Long-time member of the Brussels
Lawn Bowling Club, Mabel
Wheeler, sponsored a Ladies’ Lav/n
Bowling tournament at the greens,
Thursday, July 31 with 10 teams in
competition.

and the bases loaded on a hit by
Ashley Keffer. The bases were
cleared on hits by Sara McDonald
and McCall. Cyndi Stevenson in the
sixth led off with a single to right
followed by hits by Black, Katie
Aitcheson and Cameron.
Brussels entered the seventh down
by one run. Keffer led off with a
single advancing to second on
another single by Chelsea McLellan.
St. Paul’s would leave two runners
in scoring position to finish the
game. Final score St. Paul’s, nine,
Brussels eight.
The Midgets then travelled to
Holmesville. Pepper was on the
mound with 17 strikeouts. Pepper
the Usborne diamond for a much
closer contest.
Londesborough got on the board
first, tallying two in the second, but
then watched as Usborne pushed
four across the plate in the third and
two in the second.
Londesborough’s three in the top
of the fifth put them to within one
run, but Usborne busted the game
open with seven runs in the bottom
Brussels U-6 Is top Ils
It was another great game for the
U-6 Is as they played against the U-
6 Ils last week.

game of the year-end tournament on
Friday, Aug. 15 at 9 p.m.
