A $134,084.83 payment to Safe Fire Training Systems approved by council. *** The Wingham police station be renovated after council approved the awarding of the contract to Joe Reinhardt Construction. The motion was carried unanimously. *** Council contributed $300 to Community Safety Net, a school fire safety program, with the funds to be divided evenly between the Blyth and Wingham wards. *** Clerk-administrator John Stewart advised council that he had not yet received a reply from Wheels Away with regards to council’s proposal. *** The property standards officer was authorized to complete an inspection of a building on Blyth’s main street which had not had store front work completed by July 31. *** Stewart was authorized to contact M. Martin to discuss the construction of a Mennonite parking shed on Kerr Drive, Wingham. *** Council will repurchase two cemetery lots at Blyth Union Cemetery from D. Kastner, for $480, the cost of the lots minus care and maintenance. CD player stolen On Aug. 8 at 6:15 a.m. OPP were called to a residence on Londesborough Road in Central Huron over a theft. The officer learned that sometime through the night a red 1994 Pontiac Sunbird was entered while sitting unlocked in the driveway. Stolen was a Kenwood CD player. amplifier and subwoofers valued at $1,000. Call the Huron OPP or Crime Stoppers with information that can assist in solving this case. Vendors selling everything from vegetables and baking to woodworking made Blyth’s first farmers’ market a success on Saturday. A total of 11 vendors offered their* > goods on Memorial Hall lawn, most reporting good sales and some nearly selling out all their products. A large matinee audience at the Blyth Festival’s bonanza weekend augmented by those attending the Normoska campout at the fairgrounds and local shoppers kept business brisk.
