The Citizen, 2003-07-30, Page 9U-ll squad loses 2-1 to Elma I The Brussels U-ll squad battled hard against the visiting Elma I team only to see their hopes for a victory dashed in the final minutes. Randy Zwep showed off his strong kicking as he moved the ball into the opponents’ end. He scored on a left hook from the right side of the net after picking up a pass from Gavin Bowers. Defenders Morgan Deitner and Cam Schlosser helped goalie Christine Bone keep the crease clear and Vicky Blake moved the ball out of the Brussels end. Elma I tied the score before the half, slipping one past Bone and into the comer of the net. Cassidy Peachey and Natalie White made good attempts on the net before the whistle, but were stopped short. The half ended with Bone making a tremendous save on a penalty kick. Schlosser took a turn between the posts in the second, making great stops, particularly one where he stretched, batting the ball aside with his outreached palms. Chris Becker made a good clearing shot out to White then Kasey King for a rush downfield, but Elma turned the play around. Adrian Menzi and Jason Warwick worked well in the backfield, moving the ball to the sidelines. After falling to 2-1 because of a penalty shot, Brussels put a push on in the dying minutes, pounding the Elma crease with attempts, but could not get the ball past the defenders, taking the loss.
