Fun company
Arrogant Worms perform
for Teddy Bear auction
The Blyth Festival Theatre Young Company is holding a busker festival on Saturday in the
Memorial Hall courtyard. These young actors will be playing music, singing and dancing prior
to theatre performances, starting at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. The purpose of the busker festival is
to “show off the talent that we have here and to let people know that the Young Company is
around,” said local performer and YC assistant John Battye. There are 13 members in the
Young Company this year ranging in age from 12 to 21 and coming from Stratford, Blyth,
Goderich, Wingham, Gorrie and Kingsbridge. (Sarah Mann photo)
Entertain safely this summer
Summer is an ideal time for
relaxed entertaining with friends and
family. But drinking and driving
incidents don’t take a holiday so the
LCBO has developed helpful tips,
geared to warm weather entertaining
and long weekends, when
traditionally crashes on roads and
waterways increase.
“Good hosts always help ensure
their guests drink responsibly and
have a safe way to get home,” says
Ballerina
Carlene Bremner, daughter of Jerry and Vicky Bremner of
Blyth, completed the level one and level two starlite awards
for ballet on June 14 in Wingham. The test administrator
called her a “promising wee girl” and said she is very good
for her level. (Photo submitted)
LCBO chair and CEO Andrew
Brandt. “When you plan ahead, you
can help reduce the risk to yourself
and your guests and entertain with
ease this summer.”

gatherings fun and safe, check out

entertaining solutions, useful party
planning information and valuable
responsible hosting tips in English

Knowing how much alcohol to
buy for larger groups can be
confusing. Reduce the guesswork by
referring to LCBO’s Handy Party
Calculator with purchasing ‘
guidelines for groups of 12 - 300.
“With backyard barbecues and
outdoor get-togethers at cottages
and waterside, hosts should do all
they can to discourage drinking and
driving. It’s also important to
remember never to get into vehicles
or boats with anyone who has been
drinking,” adds Andrew Murie,
national executive director, MADD
Canada.

Sept. 20 the Teddy Bear Dream
Auction takes to the stage at the
Blyth Memorial Hall. As it has in
past years, the event will feature
great food and excellent auction
items.
This year’s event will also feature
special entertainment provided by
the band - The Arrogant Worms.
One of Canada’s most popular live
acts, The Worms’ versatility is
second to none. The Worms find
their roots in folk and acoustic rock,
though they borrow from Celtic,
country, reggae, bluegrass, surf
music, and even gospel.
The Arrogant Worms’ material
ranges from topical to the absurd.
They are regularly heard on CBC
radio programs such as Basic Black,
This Morning, Nightlines and
DNTO and Lome Elliott’s Madly
Off In All Directions. They’ve also
been featured on the internationally
syndicated Dr. Demento radio
Dinos come to Bruce Cty.
Dinosaurs will invade Bruce
County this summer when the Bruce
County Museum & Archives brings
the Royal Ontario Museum’s
Dinomobile to six Bruce County
communities.
The Dinomobile visits will be the
first in a series of new outreach
activities the Museum is planning to
offer in towns and communities right
across the county.
Travel back to when dinosaurs
roamed the world in this unique,
self-contained exhibit in a trailer!
The Dinomobile features several
full-size dinosaurs, such as an
Albertosaurus attacking a nest of
Maiasaur hatchlings and an
Ornithomimus running. from two
dog-sized Dromaeosaurs with razor
sharp teeth and claws. Examine the
head of a Triceratops and compare
the similarities of birds to dinosaurs.
The experience is enhanced by
reconstructed habitats and sounds
that scientists believe dinosaurs
made.
The Dinomobile is wheelchair-
accessible.
The Dinomobile will be open daily
from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. in the
following Bruce County
communities:

entertainment to the Sept. 20 Teddy
Bear Dream Auction.
The Teddy Bear Dream Auction is
one of the best fundraising events in
Huron County, and it raises money
for a commendable cause - the
elimination of child abuse. This
annual event is hosted by the Huron
County Child Abuse Prevention
Committee, a non-profit
organization totally funded by
donations and fundraising events.
The organization is established to
raise public awareness of child
abuse by providing and supporting
education and prevention programs
for children, parents, professionals
and other members of the
community.
The annual auction raises some
$20,000 to help children and
families in Huron County.
