Brewers on a tear
winning 3 straight

The Walton Brewers have been
tearing up the base path this past
week with three resounding wins.
Playing back-to-back games against
the Brussels Tigers, the first game
on was Tuesday night in Walton.
Scott McDonald went the distance
pitching a five-hitter in the 10-3
win.
The Tigers took the lead in the
first inning scoring two runs, but the
Brewers scored four in the bottom of
the inning and never looked back.
Steve Knight and Scott Robinson
each hit homeruns and Bruce Peam
was three for four at the plate.
Matt Shortreed was outstanding in
left field catching everything and
anything.
Game two was in Brussels on
Wednesday evening with the
Brewers coming to play. They
scored nine runs in the first inning to
coast to a 10-1 victory over the
Tigers.
Pitcher Larry Lowes pitched the
five-inning mercy.
Brewer Robinson hit a homerun
for the second night in a row and
Steve Leonhardt and Darryl
Houston both went two for two at
the plate.
A nice double play by second
baseman Brad Knight put an end to
the Tigers’ promising inning.
The Brewers travelled to the
Zurich Rangers on Sunday evening
for their third game of the week.
They continued their strong
batting and good defensive play in
the 14-2 romp over the Rangers.
Lowes was again on the mound for
the Brewers to toss a four-hitter for
the complete game.
Strong batting came from Steve
Hoff who went four for four and
batted in five RBIs. Robinson
continued his homerun streak hitting
his third in three games. Shortreed
also hit a towering blast out of the
Zurich park.
The Walton Brewers’ home games
are on Tuesday evenings at 8 p.m. in
Walton.
U-9s holds on for 1-0 victory
Midgets fall to
Holmesville squad
Anthony Lichty started in goal
when the Brussels U-9s took on
Elma II in recent soccer action.
First-line defence was handled by
Marissa Lefor and Patty Blake.
The first Brussels goal was a
cheap one with Elma accidently
deflecting the ball into their own
end, allowing Brussels to score.
Blake took over in net during the
Season ends for U-6 squad
At the last U-6 II soccer game,
Conner Bridge, Eric Van Nes, and
Seth Nichol did a superb job of
chasing that ball and getting in there
to keep it away from their net. Kai
Heimstra, one of the goalies for the
night did a great job of stopping the
balls and keeping the score down.
Johanna Blake was also a goalie
during the game and showed terrific
strength when a ball hit her in the
face and she was able to shake it off
and keep playing.
Laura Souch, and Charity Nonkes
worked well together kicking the
ball to the other net, with great
hopes of scoring. Dalton Hamilton,
Dawson Peachey, Dalen Martin and
Owen Hamilton did a fabulous job
of getting in there to get the ball and
U-6 I team
unbeaten
The U6-Is continue to have an
unbeaten streak this season. On
Wednesday, July 9, they played
against the U-6 IVs winning 7-5.
Goals were scored by Wyatt
Ducharme and Kristen Pipe.
Wednesday, July 16 saw a win of
5-1 against the U-6 Ils. Goals were
scored by Ducharme, Pipe and Tim
Waechter.

With only two U-6 games left this
season, the Brussels minor soccer
club invites everyone out to watch

Christina Lewis stole the ball from
the Elma end, but her attempt to
move it up the field was thwarted

Brussels battled hard to the end,
holding on for the win.
U-6 Ills take the win
On Wednesday, July 16 the
Brussels Midgets were on the road
to play Holmesville. Lesley Pepper
started on the mound with four
strikeouts and Lisa Black came in
the final inning to finish'out the
game and have one strikeout.
Brussels led off in the first inning
with Pepper reaching first on an
error. Jenna Fischer then waited out
a walk and all advanced with a
single by Sara McDonald to load the
bases. Black and Candice Ross both
hit singles to score two runs.
Holmesville answered with six in
the first on three walks, two hits and
three errors. They would add two
more runs in the second but were
shut down in the third.
Brussels left runners in scoring
position every inning but got no runs
again until the final inning. Candice
McLellan and Katie Aitchison
advanced on walks. McLellan
scored on a single by Cyndi
Stevenson.
Holmesville would score 12 more
runs in the final innings on two hits
and eight errors.
The final score was Holmesville,
20, Brussels, 3.
This week Brussels is on the road
to St. Pauls on Wednesday. They
played in Listowel on Monday.
The Brussels U-6 Ills took on
their IV counterparts on July 16.
Matthew Terpstra got things
started for the U-6 Ills early in the
game.
Delayna Smith set up Joel Kipfer
for the squad’s second, then Lexi
Smith came on with two goals to
increase the edge.
Terpstra scored a distance goal for
his second of the game, which was
followed by two from Daniel
Lichty.
With only seconds to go, L. Smith
found the net for the third time.
The U-6 IVs managed just one in
this contest giving their opponents
an 8-1 victory.
