Holidays are in full s$fng,
everyone coming and going with a
smile. Whether visiting favourite
places or heading out to spots of new
discovery, staying with family for
times of reunion or just staying
home to enjoy the lack of pressures
- ahhhh leisure is time for
rejuvenation.
The Graber-Watson clan are ready
tor a first-ever group camping
experience. It’s always interesting to
get folks out of their element with
the toilet down the path. We have the
books and bathing suits ready and
can hardly wait. Our grandchildren
span the years from one to 13 so
these six will ensure that their uncles
have lots of activity.
July and August means the United
and Presbyterian congregations
worship together as their ministers
have a holiday. The United services
come to an end on Sunday and to
celebrate The Saints will help lead
the worship. (And here I thought the
saints were regularly in church -
Ha!) You are invited to come and
enjoy these lively musicians from
the Harriston area and stay for lunch.
The ball park was full of laughter,
good ball and memories as the first
John W. Lowe memorial game was
held on Saturday night. Friends,
family and sports fans attended to
remember and appreciate the
enthusiasm John had for sports and a
good time. What a neat way to let
Skylar know the stories of her dad.
Thanks Tigers.
Richard Golden starts with his
new pastoral charge next month in
Melbourne. We’ll miss Ophelia
taking him for a regular walk but
know he has the travel time
calculated. Blessings on you our
travelling friend.
Happy Holiday.
Bye now, Betty G. W.
A father’s thanks
Wayne Lowe, father of the late John Lowe, spoke before the
first pitch at the John W. Lowe fastball challenge on
Saturday night in Brussels. Wayne thanked the community
for the support and said he knew John was looking down
and smiling. (Sarah Mann photo)
The Citizen will be
closing for holidays
The Brussels office will be closed from July 28 at 2 pm
to August 11 at 10 am. The Blyth office will be closed
There will be
no paper published on August 6
so if you want to advertise anything
for that week it
should be in the July 30 paper.
FROM BRUSSELS
’03 Tigers versus ’97 Tigers
At the
Branch
By Jo-Ann McDonald
This week’s Friday night supper at
the Brussels Legion is Salisbury
steak.
On Saturday, there were 13 tables
of euchre players looking to win top
prize. Top winners, with 75 points,
were Isabelle Gray and Hilda
Holmes. Close behind with 73
points for second were Shirley
Hackett and Kay McCormick. Right
behind with 72 points were third
place winners Kay McCreery and
Tom Stevens.
The couple who didn’t fare so
well were Bob and Dorothy Dalton
with 49 points for the low prize of
the day. Lone hand winners were
Glen Sellers and Janet.
The Branch also was the place for
Leona Snyder to celebrate her 80th
birthday. Many well wishers
dropped in for the come-and-go tea
in the afternoon. Around 80 family
members and friends enjoyed a
delicious dinner served by the
Ladies Auxiliary and Branch
members. Congratulations Leona!
Sunday was the regular Sunday
night singles dance where over 100
enjoyed the music of Blue Diamond
Trio.
Ryan Buchannan, starting pitcher for the 2003 Tigers winds
up before throwing his pitch. The final score of the John W.
Lowe fastball challenge was 15-4 for the ’97 Tigers. “We
went easy on them,” said 2003 Tigers manager Doug
McArter. (Sarah Mann photo)
