Celtic harpist performs
at Bayfield Town Hall
Timothy Harper is bringing the
ancient sound of the Celtic harp to
the Bayfield Town Hall when he
performs a concert on July 26.
Harper’s debut CD The First
Forest, officially released this
summer, is a full-length recording
that showcases his trademark Celtic
Fusion sound. He weaves the
ancient harp of Ireland into original
compositions of distinctly modern
character, incorporating elements of
rock, gypsy and jazz traditions,
underpinned with his own intensely
poetic lyrics and vocal
performances.
His love affair with the Celtic harp
began when he first heard the music
of Loreena McKennitt as a student
in Northern Ontario.

festival’s off season.
What began as “hippie

Thompson quickly evolved into a
writers’ retreat as the two rented a
farmhouse just west of Walton and
began their writing in earnest.
Inspired by the stories of Harry
Finlay, proprietor of the famous
Black Swan coffee house in
Stratford during the early 1970s,
McIntosh and Garfinkel began
canvassing new friends in the
Brussels area for stories related to
the “hippie” era.
The music of The Perth County
Conspiracy served as a constant
backdrop for the project as many
members of the enigmatic group
lived on nearby farms. The result is
a new play - Hippie, the third
production in Blyth’s 2003 season.
“The point of this is not to be
hippies and to challenge the
audience into loving or hating
them,” says Thompson, director and
co-writer of the piece. “The
experience is as much about what
was happening to the locals as it is
about the kids who were coming out
here.”
