(Sarah Mann photo) PeeWees nip Usborne Outlaws end regular season The Londesborough PeeWee baseball team played against Usborne last Wednesday, July 9. They scored no runs in the first inning while Usborne scored two but responded in the second inning by scoring seven runs. However, Usborne matched them and also scored seven runs. No runs were scored by Londesborough in the third inning and Usborne only scored one. Londesborough scored a total of four runs in the fifth and sixth innings but Usborne scored seven runs in the fourth and won the game 17- 11. Derek Dolmage, Nathan Salverda, and Drew Miller pitched. Lucknow tops U-11 Thunder On Tuesday, July 8, Blyth Thunder played its second game of the season, against Lucknow III. The game was played at the arena field in Blyth. Game captain, Kelly MacDonald started the game as right defense. The team was shorthanded, as several players were away on holidays. Micah Nonkes and Greg Without much of a rest, the PeeWees took to the field last Thursday and played a close game against Holmesville. Londesborough scored a total of three runs in the first three innings compared to the six runs scored by Holmesville. Mike Elliott homered in the second inning. The team was pumped and scored a whopping seven runs in the fourth inning which Holmesville matched. A total of five other runs came in in the last two innings and the final score of the game was 15-14 for Londesborough. Miller and Dolmage threw two strikeouts each. Roetcisoender came up to give the squad a few extra bodies for substitutions. They both played a very strong game. Goalies Kurtis Kolkman and Jacob VanDorp made some good saves throughout the game. Brent Drost scored Blyth’s first goal with an assist from Jacob Continued on page 10 The last week of regular season for the North Perth Midget Outlaws proved to be interesting. On Monday night, July 7 the rival Brantford team came to Listowel. Matt Tell, assisted by David Fitzgerald put the dark one past the Brantford goalie early in the first period to start the scoring. The play was back and forth for almost 10 minutes before the opposing team was able to score. Tyler DeVos answered quickly with an unassisted goal. Brantford evened it up on a powerplay but Tony DeBlock got the go-ahead goal to end the first period with less than a minute left in the period. The second period went well for the Outlaws with Fitzgerald adding one of his own on a pass from Brett Hunt. Justin Erb got in on the action Brussels U-lls lose close one With just one win and a tie under their belts this season, the Brussels U-ll team put on a good showing when they met Newton II, July 8. Though the visitors scored early, Randy Zwep’s strong kicking power soon put Brussels back in the game. First, a boot from centre moved the play down field to slow the attack. Then, following a great stop by Christine Bone in net and help from defenders Adrian Menzi and Matthew Cardiff, Zwep picked up the ball from a comer kick, carried it downfield where the combined efforts of Vicky Blake and Natalie White tied the game at one. Kristen Grobbink was active in centrefield, continually rushing into Blyth Tykes Ils win 4, lose 4 It’s been a busy baseball seasoi for the Blyth Tyke II team. On July 7 they played against Brussels and won 15-13. Kayla Dale, Rebecca Chalmers, and Drew Wood each scored a homerun when the team travelled to Belmore on July 2. The final score of the game was 15-2. On June 30 the team played the Blyth Tyke team I and lost the game 29-17. The team made the trek to Wingham on June 24 and lost 14-12 to the home team. The night before, on June 23, they U-13s lose 3-2 It was a rain-soaked game last Thursday when the Blyth Thunder U-13s travelled to Lucknow. Regal Good scored on a penalty shot and Drew Tayler also scored a goal. It was a close game but the team was unable to score the tying goal. The final score of the game was 3 - 2 for Lucknow. Jason Hamilton, with help from Fitzgerald scored late in the second period. The Brantford team was only allowed one goal in the second. Tempers rose and fists flew and much of the rest of the game was played with only three Outlaw players on the floor at a time. Liam Madge was faced with the difficult task of trying to keep the ball out of the net with so many attackers coming at him. Brantford scored 10 goals in the third period to the one lone marker scored early in the period by Hamilton. The second game in as many days was played on Tuesday night. A much different team came out to play. The Outlaws met up with the the fray. Cassidy Peachey cleared the ball from the opponents. Jason Warwick narrowly missed putting Brussels ahead when his shot went wide. Zwep attempted to set up Emily Prior and Avaleigh Nonkes in front of the Newton net, but their efforts were pushed aside. Newton regained the lead before halftime when two players confronted Bone with a shot that went just wide of her sprawling attempt at kicking it clear. She followed that up with a tremendous grab as the ball rolled towards the comer of the net. After seeing Newton open a two- goal lead early in the second, a great played in Brussels and lost 11-6. It was a big-scoring night on June 16 when Blyth played Belmore and won 26-7. It was a close game on June 9 when Blyth hosted Wingham and beat them 19-17. The Outlaws ended the regular season with a score of 14 to 4 and earned only two penalties the whole game - a record for the Midgets this year. Scoring were Xavier O”Krafka (three), Justin Smith (three), Ashton Nichol (three), Cory Chapman (two), Drew Campbell, Adam MacDonald and Cory MacDonald. Assisting the goals were Nichol, MacDonald, McKee, Chapman, and Erb. North Perth midgets will play a round robin series with Minto and Elora II for the C division championship. The first game is July 22 at 8:30 p.m. in Wingham against Minto. play started by Cardiff resulted in Brussels pulling back to within one. Cardiff’s pass to White for a shot was stopped, but the rebound was picked up by Menzi who got the ball to White for the netter. Kabrina Bishop was robbed of a shot in close. Curtis White threw his body into the game and Breanne den Dekker and Kasey King worked to keep the play moving. On defence for Brussels, Menzi, Chris Becker and Morgan Deitner worked to keep the play to the sidelines. Newton topped off the scoring with a long shot that grabbed the comer, for the 4-2 win. On June 5 Blyth played in Belgrave and won the game 18-12. Bryce Giousher scored one homerun and Nathan Plunkett scored two when the Tykes played in Ethel on June 2. The final score of the game was 13-6. ■
