PEOPLE AROUND
WALTON
Neil and Marie McGavin have
returned from a wonderful trip to
Alaska. They flew from Toronto to
Vancouver where they boarded the
beautiful cruise ship The Dawn
Princess. Heading north they visited
Ketchican, Juneau, Skagway and
Glacier Bay.
They took a train into the White
Pass where the gold rush took place.
They saw plenty of wildlife
including bears, whales and seals.
They came home by Anchorage to
Vancouver and then to Toronto.
They met people they knew from
Granton.
The Mcdonald clan has returned to
the west this past week after
enjoying their 10-day visit in
Ontario. Neil McDonald claims he
did a week and a half’s work in only
L. McDonald greets at Duffs United
Leona McDonald greeted those
attending Duff’s United Church on
the fifth Sunday after Pentecost. The
flowers adorning the sanctuary were
placed in loving memory of Glen
Oliver by the Oliver family.
The congregation was blessed by
the vocal talents of Brian Black and
daughter Jennifer. They sang The
Gift of Love and Sometimes I
Wish.
Rev. Joan Tuchlinsky presented
the scripture readings and Jennifer
Black assisted by singing the verses
five days, prior to the wedding of
niece LeeAnn and returned home to
Vancouver to rest.
Mike and Chrissy Warwick and
Abby the Labby, as well as Kendra
Warwick and fiancde Anass
Benhallem returned to Calgary on
Monday after having a wonderful
visit with mom Karin in Bayfield
and grandma Leona in Walton.
Our lives are now back to almost
normal as is our home. What took 15
months of planning, booking,
growing, borrowing and anticipating
was thoroughly enjoyed for a mere
12 hours, and now a week later our
home has returned to its usual chaos.
A lasting reminder is our beautiful
flowerbeds that LeeAnn worked
diligently on and now I must
maintain.
An unfortunate car accident
involving two local men happened
on Sawmill Road. Ivin Shannon and
Campbell Wey were involved and
we hope they are both recovering
nicely.
Peter Bennett had back surgery at
Western Hospital in Toronto last
week. Mother Marg reports he is
home and doing well.
Another young Walton woman
was married this past Saturday.
of Psalm 91, joined by the
congregation on the chorus.
Rev, Joan with assistance from
Chad Spalding, Brian Wilbee,
Evelyn Gulutzen, Brian Black,
Marion Godkin, Jennifer and Laura
Black presented a dramatic dialogue
entitled You - Sitting in the Pew
Next to Me as her reflection.
The offering was collected by
Brian McGavin and Brian Wilbee.
Anyone wishing to have a child
baptized this September should
contact Joan immediately as baptism
Kerry Blake, daughter of Bob and
Clara Blake, married Andrew Dale
of Seaforth in a service at St.
Ambrose Catholic Church. A
wonderful meal and reception was
held at the BMG Community
Centre. Congratulations to Kerry
and Andrew, who will be residing in
Stratford.
In an unusual twist of coincidence,
it was 26 years ago that two young
neighbour men from the 8th of
Morris also married. Bob and Clara
Blake were married June 11, 1977
and Rick and I were married June
18, 1977. Who would have thought
that 26 years later our daughters
would marry a week apart also -
LeeAnn and Jason on July 5 and
Kerr)' and Andrew on July 12. Will
history repeat itself again in 25
years?
The staff of McGavins enjoyed a
summer staff party by going golfing
at the Bluewater Golf Course near
Bayfield on Sunday. They then went
to Pine Lake to Neil and Marie’s
trailer for a barbecue and social time.
It was a beautiful day and enjoyed
by all who attended.
Visiting at Neil and Marie
McGavin’s over the weekend were
Marilyn Oliver of Markham and
meetings will be held July 15 and 22
at 7 p.m.
Camp Menesetung forms are
available at the church. The Brussels
Kid’s Comer Vacation Bible School
runs Aug. 11-15.
There are only three weeks left for
services until holidays start for Rev.
Joan, and if you wish to continue to
support the church during holiday
time, then pre-authorized remittance
(PAR) is for you.
Information is available at the
church or from treasurer Dianne
Dane Oliver of Toronto. They had a
good visit and attended church at
Duff’s United, Walton on Sunday
morning.
Rob McClure is recovering from
an accident with a paint ball. He
suffered an eye injury but family
report he’s doing fine with no
permanent damage.
Celebrating birthdays this past
week were Gerald Watson, Devon
McCutcheon, Mitchell Ryan, Julie
MacDonald, Neil Mitchell, Janie
McEwing, Brenda Finlayson, Alicia
Dalton, Ed McClure, Monica Ryan,
Doreen Hackwell, Darlene Stevens,
Karissa McMeekin. Congrats to all.
Doug and Marjorie Frazer spent a
few days at Clayton’s in Windsor.
They were able to enjoy the
combined fireworks display put on
by Windsor and Detroit over the
Detroit River. The fireworks are let
off from a boat on the river. They
also had a chance to see their great
grandchild Kacie, daughter of
Jeremy and Renee Symons, born in
early June.
Michael Craig has returned home
after spending two weeks at camp
near Toronto, always nice to go
away on holidays but nice to come
home.
McCallum.
There were will be no services
from Aug. 10-31 with Joan on
holidays from Aug. 4 - Sept. 1.
Urgent pastoral care will be
provided by Steve Hildebrand of
Egmondville United Church from
Aug. 4-15 and Rev. Cathrine

The ladies of the UCW were busy
as they served the sit-down dinner

FROM WALTON
Stars
explore
bones
The Shining Stars class of the
Walton Little School has begun a
dinosaur hunt by exploring bones.
They have learned that dinosaur
bones are found by scientists and are
called fossils. When a fossil is found
it is put in a big cast to protect it
from breaking.
They began to compare their foot
size to that of a dinosaur and they
used their globe and map to see
where different types of dinosaurs
lived. They charted various
dinosaurs into plant and meat eaters
and ones that walk on two legs and
those who walk on four legs.
JVH reeve worried about residential development
By Bonnie Gropp
Citizen editor
With only a few lots left in
Wingham, the future of residential
development in the North Huron
ward is concerning Reeve Doug
Layton.
At the July 7 meeting, Layton told
councillors he wants to investigate
the costs of extending services to
Hutton Heights, a subdivision south
of Wingham in East Wawanosh. “We
are running out of choices for land
development. There is not a lot (of
choice) left.”

Councillor Archie MacGowan
said that while he agreed something
must be considered down the road,
he had to wonder where the money
would come from to increase the
lagoon and water capacity.
Filling the vacant lots, before
worrying about creating others was
also suggested.
Layton argued that when people
are choosing a building site they
want selection.
Councillor Arnold Taylor noted,
however, that the cost to provide this
just might be too much. Layton
agreed this could be prohibitive, but
felt it needed to be studied.
“But let’s say the decision is made
to go ahead and over time we sell
five lots in Hutton Heights, but
we’re still sitting here with the 40.
Does this justify the costs?” asked
Taylor.
Councillor Murray Nesbitt
reminded that the 12 homes
currently in Hutton Heights have
done the work and seen to the costs
for their septic systems. “The only
way this would be feasible is for
others to hook into existing
systems,” he noted.
“(Current homeowners) are not
going to be happy about that,”
agreed MacGowan.
Layton acknowledged what WWW.IVESINSURANCE.COM
councillors were saying, but said he
would like to find out if it’s “doable.
This is something I’m not going to
give up on.”
Taylor said the cost of a study is
